Can someone tell me how to make HTML codes available for people to copy?

I mean, let's say I have a button for people who want to affiliat my site, I need a way to place the HTML code with out it activating so people can copy and paste it.

When you copy it... it should copy the hyper link... Normally does...

When ever I post it up, it shows the button

Take one of the image code parts out of the coding.

There's a way to do it with out getting rid of part of the code. I need to figure out how though.

well in javascript if you forget to add the <> to the code it might show it to older browsers... maybe if you leave those (or the equivalent important punctuation, this way the true code is intact but can still be shown) off?
besides anyone who has done affiliation should know how to add the code, if they don't then they should find out before trying to affiliate.

I know I should have. But I can't find any tutorials for it. I have a friend who can do it but we barely talk since she deleted her myspace.
