i remember when i briefly attended a junior high school in virginia, the english classes at the school i went to had sub-divisions.. and one of them was mythology, namely, greek and roman myths.. and since the other classes were full, (i was a late-admit) i was put into that one, and i loved it. when i came back to new york for the holiday, i told my mom and she went and brought me a book.. i still have it to this day.. it has excerpts from the Iliad in it as well..

A few of my personal favorites are the legend of Perseus, the 12 Labors of Heracules(Hercules), the Oddyse(I know it was written by Homer but it's cool anyway), and you may question this one but I've always adored the legend of Atlantis.

Has anyone read Ovid's Metamorphosis? it's a collection of greek myths in poetical form, its more difficult than a standard book of myths that have been interpreted but its much closer to how the myths were created and well worth checking out if you have the time, patience and interest. In fact I found a link which has the book in 14 parts...

It was first told to Plato's uncle by the Egyptians. Plato, who as a small child who went with his uncle to Egypt that date, eavesdropped and heard the story. He then told the tale of the doomed continent in his famous speech The Republic.

Ah yes, the friend of man. Prometheus was the one who gave mankind fire, but he was punished severly for it. If you want to see a good depiction of him, go to Rockefeller Center and go ice skating. A famous golden statue of Prometheus can be seen there.
