Title: Stereotypes..

Black Angel - July 1, 2006 08:01 PM (GMT)
You've heard them.. All irish people are drunks, all jews cheap, all blacks steal.. all gays are child-molesters.. etc.. Do you think that some stereotypes are true? Why or Why not? :)

MaranX - July 1, 2006 08:06 PM (GMT)
lol, I thought that my nation is drunk and steals. Yeah, this depends very often on judging the person we meet.

Sephiroth - July 1, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)
Mhyts i tell ya....no one is equal to no one....everybody is an individual, and as so everybody has it's own way of being.......

thefishofdoom - July 1, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
no there bull crap

coolman - July 1, 2006 10:46 PM (GMT)
Yeh, im black, so it is offensive to me

Black Angel - July 2, 2006 02:00 AM (GMT)
This wasn't about whether or not you think they are offensive, this was a question of if you think that some stereotypes are true.

neo - July 17, 2006 09:19 AM (GMT)
i think it is more true than i would like. i stereo type on the internet. thats why i like to find out about my cyber buddys. so i woudn't be serprized of new info. and see it from there point of veiw.

if you don't think you stereo type then answer this. what do i look and sound like to you when you read this?

Link - July 17, 2006 09:53 AM (GMT)
Well it all depends on the stereotypes to me....Most of them I find untrue though...

neo - July 17, 2006 05:19 PM (GMT)
what do you mean by that.? like stereo typing is only a way to see somthing you don't know or understand. do you get that link?

Mystic Mage - July 17, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
Stereotyping= Prejudice
Prejudice= Discrimination
Discrimination= People getting hurt

Stereotyping is soooooo stupid... Stereotyping is putting someone in a group with other people that have their own social status... If i got called a nerd... I'd fell sorry for the person who said it... And there we go... Prejudice= People getting hurt... Even i agree with that... I do my best not to stereotype... But if i do, i keep it in my head...

Black Angel - July 17, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
My point as stated here.

I'm too lazy to re-post it.. :)

Mystic Mage - July 17, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
Lol... Awe man i gotta read all that now!...

Dictator - July 17, 2006 07:38 PM (GMT)
Well many of the stereotypes are true. I'm sad to say it, but there are many that are not. However, you shouldn't sterotype just because they seem true.

Mystic Mage - July 17, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
Some stereotypes are true... I'm really sorry Sae but i cannot beleive you just said that! Stereotyping is used on countrys or something huge... Yet i doubt that in the 2 billion odd people who live in Britian are all posh... I doubt that the whole population of America are fat and idiotic, i doubt that all blacks are theives.

See this is stereotypes.... it's uncalled for!

Dictator - July 17, 2006 08:56 PM (GMT)
No, no. You misunderstood me, there are many sterotypes that are true. For example popular students are egotistic jerks. For the most part from what I see at my school it's true, I'm sorry if I offended anyone but it's what I see. Because from the way those people act it creates a stereotype. Also I wasn't implying Brittish people are posh, American's are fat and idiotic, and that black people steal. First off, I know this because I've learned things about Brittish history, and their people, I've had many black friends and none project that type of behavior, and I'm American and most Americans I know aren't fat and idiotic.

What you're looking at are major stereotypes. Most major stereotypes aren't true but if you look at the minor ones, the ones from schools, the one from almost anywhere that are seen as stereotypes but aren't recognized as much are true. At least that's my opinion because I haven't seen the other 90 percent of the world.

neo - July 18, 2006 02:03 AM (GMT)
i get why people stereo type and stuff. but

"stereotypes aren't true " does this mean people think they are stereo typing some one and the stuff they stareo type about them to not mach up with what they realy r like.. Wait.

true stereo type would mean that some one thinks a person has black hair when the person does have black hair.

is that it? i think i have prosesed that though my brain now. "true and not true stereo typing"

Yeah major... But the minor ones are only known to the people that think that... I mean that not everyonr knows the minor ones and the major ones are used more often... there by making it seem true!

Dictator - July 18, 2006 05:20 PM (GMT)
I know, and what's worst is that movies, and television often times use stero types for there characters.

I wasn't aiming at the major stero types though because those are very untrue.

Yup... Most of the movies make it so the British people are evil... I don't understand why aswell

Black Angel - July 19, 2006 01:33 AM (GMT)
They also portray the british as snobs..

coolman - July 19, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
U didn't have to say their snobs, most british aren't dat rich, people just make british evil in their movies because of the war for america but I dont really got anything against british people

Black Angel - July 19, 2006 02:48 AM (GMT)
ok coolman, let me ask you something.. do you read and pay attention to what was posted? or do you just skim through the thread and then respond..

i did not say that the british were snobs.. i said that that was how they are portrayed..

it was an addendum to thomaski's and sae's points about the role tv and movies play in stereotyping a certain group.. :ermm:

coolman - July 19, 2006 04:31 AM (GMT)
well then never mind :-_-:

:ashamed: well... That's not completely untrue... Most people I know are rich... But not every single one... The thing is we have Lords and Ladies... (Boy i wouldn't mind marrying a Lady) And that's still on these days... I actually enjoy it though... they may be rich but they're really nice, kind and they kinda mix the old with the new... They also help the villages...
:ashamed: Yup like i said that's not untrue... but we're not all rich...

Um.. Financial Wealth is not correlated to Conceit.

I could be as poor as they come and not have a dime to my name, but I could be conceited about intelligence, my appearance, or anything else that i may take tremendous pride in..

And typically, the rich are only conceited if they did not earn their wealth.. or in other words, their wealth was handed to them.. they never had to work for anything.. But if you earned your money to become wealthy, then you will ALWAYS know what it is like to be on the other side of the fence.. <= and in turn, that will keep them grounded.

Paris Hilton is conceited because she is an heiress.. she inherited her daddy's fortune.. so all she has to do is bat her eyes, spread her legs or get on her knees to get what she wants from anyone that she comes in contact with..

Jewel, wouldn't be the same because she was poor, and was living in a truck, when she was discovered for her singing talent.. and for that she will always be humble..

Tyler Perry is another example.. He is the creator of Madea, and is credited for movies such as "Madea's Family Reunion" and "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" as well as a plethora of off-broadway plays. He used to be homeless.. as in on the street.. and yet, he worked hard, and worked his way to the top, and these are the kinds of people who do not change because they have become wealthy.

Dictator - July 19, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
I really don't care if someone is wealthy or not as long as they don't become egotistic snobs. Most rich people give some amount of money to charity. You can't just judge someone off of what they have and what they don't. if you do you'll be making a major mistake.

coolman - July 20, 2006 06:37 PM (GMT)
What sae said

All-AmericanFFNerd - July 21, 2006 04:24 AM (GMT)
yeah black angel, paris hilton grrrrrrrrr............nvrmnd...welll stereotypes r kind of like guidelines or rules in a sort...let me explain.sometimes there are rules that are unjust, and there are those who break them, but there are those who believe the rules are just and live by them..ppl perceive stereotypes differently, just like rules.i believe some stereotypes are true and some aren't.i'm a nerd, there's no way around it, but i'm proud of it, i take the term nerd as a compliment.but still, sometimes it's hard to take nerd as a term of endeerment when it is accompanied by other words...i will probably 4ever dislike the jocks, even though i have jock friends.just because someone believes a stereotype to a point doesn't mean it applies to everyone because all ppl are different, even within there stereotype/label.well, i hope i got my point across without too much confusion....man!i love discussions like this!!<<<<completely nerdy ;D :-_-:

coolman - July 21, 2006 04:52 AM (GMT)

Dictator - July 21, 2006 05:05 AM (GMT)
I think he's just saying that because it's in the same topic. I don't now really.

All-AmericanFFNerd - July 21, 2006 05:09 AM (GMT)
i agree w/ Sae, i think he means someone nerdy(me) and someone "cool"(him) being on the same forum.not to be rude, but coolness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.but i'm sure he meant no harm anyhow.

i agree.. i think of myself as a nerd.. i mean i would rather stay at home with a book, my computer, or mr. nest as opposed to going clubbing or getting caught up in someone else's bullshit.. i've also been told that i was cool by a lot of people.. but i guess what it all boils down to is the fact that i don't give a flying f--k what people think about me.. all that atters is what i think if myself..

All-AmericanFFNerd - July 21, 2006 05:25 AM (GMT)
power to the nerds!!woo-hoo!wow, i just realized how off topic we've really gotten lo, well not entirely but still.*begins babbling*well, nothing else to say 4 now. :wtf: lol P.S. nerds will rule the world(wait we already kinda do)
