Title: Would you support the creation of a W.E.T.?

Black Angel - July 1, 2006 08:12 PM (GMT)
Would you support the creation of a White Entertainment Television channel?

Why or why not?

thefishofdoom - July 1, 2006 08:14 PM (GMT)
If they want it that bad then why not its just Tv

Black Angel - July 1, 2006 08:16 PM (GMT)
i wouldn't because more than 80% of what is shown on tv has a predominate, or entire cast of white people. Some people argue that B.E.T which stands for Black Entertainment Television, is racist in that its programming consisted of tv shows with a predominate cast of black people. The majority of what is on tv now has a 90% casting of white people..

Gilmore Girls.. there is not a black person in that show..
Smallville.. that show had 1 black person.. his name was pete.. and some how afte the 3rd season, pete's storyline ended.. the only other black person that has been on the show was this kid who seemed to be made of metal..
Everwood.. that show had one black person in it.. and he was the husband of the receptionist that worked in the doctors office..
Friends.. Only one black person, she was played by Gabrielle Union, and happened to be the love interest of both Ross and Joey..

there are quite a few others..

the one station on regular tv that had a very good amount of tv shows with a predominate casting of black people such as Cuts, Eve, Girlfriends, One on One, All of Us, and Half & Half, was UPN 9 which is stationed in secaucus new jersey.. unfortunately as of this fall, that station will be no more as it will be merging with WB11.. which happens to be the current network that plays host to Gilmore Girls, Everwood, 7th Heaven, & Smallville.. to form the new CW Network.

the result? the only UPN shows (with a predominate casting of black people) that made the cut was Girlfriends, (which by the way, is directed and produced by Kelsey Grammer. You might know him as Dr. Frasier Crane on Frasier & Cheers or as Beast in X3.) All of Us, & Everybody Hates Chris. All 3 shows are produced by celebrities. As for the other shows, they have been cancelled.

What pisses me off the most is that they are keeping 7th Heaven for a 12th season. That show has been on the WB network for more than 11 years. That show has ran its course, and it should stay that way.. they could always sell it to a cable network like they did Xena: Warrior Princess, and Hercules. That is an hour time slot that could be better filled with 2 more shows from UPN 9.. namely, One on One, and Half & Half.. these shows as well as the shows mentioned before brought the UPN 9 very high ratings.. and i think that if these shows were also included in the CW lineup then the network as a whole, would be very hard to beat in ratings.

BlackCloudX - July 1, 2006 08:20 PM (GMT)
i prefer BET it has some white people in its shows...

but WET dont sound good its like racism to another channel or maybe they are just angry...

dunno why but i hope it dont happen or else it might cuase fights...

thefishofdoom - July 1, 2006 08:23 PM (GMT)
i really woundnt wacha any some as i dont care if its there

BlackGokuX - July 1, 2006 09:49 PM (GMT)
I perfer P.C. I made that up but it stands for Peoples Choice TV

Black Angel - July 4, 2006 07:59 PM (GMT)
I think that there should be more variety on television. It's ridiculous. It is messed up that blacks have to pay for cable in order to see a network that caters to their community, while whites get the best of both worlds. It can't be about whites being the majority because they aren't the majority anymore.. The minorities and mixed races are now the majority and so, there should be more television stations and programming catering to those communities.

thefishofdoom - July 4, 2006 09:41 PM (GMT)
no one wacns those shows you listed at the top were i live(san fransisco)

Black Angel - July 4, 2006 09:57 PM (GMT)
the majority of the Black Community does. that is why they are on BET.

Dictator - July 4, 2006 10:03 PM (GMT)
I've watched B.E.T before. I never really liked it, just me.

As for the W.E.T, I don't care what's on TV. Only if I'm watching it, if it's a channel that I don't watch then i don't really care. Simply if you don't like it don't watch it. If they wanted to they could make a network like that because some people would watch it.

A.J. The Echidna - July 5, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
W.E.T. would suck. they'd mostly show reruns of The Gong Show or something like that.

All-AmericanFFNerd - July 21, 2006 04:39 AM (GMT)
personally, W.E.T could be good, but maybe even better would D.T., Diversity Television or something like that to showcase the great melting pot that is America(now it's called a salad instead of a melting pot wtf?!it's because all though everything is together it doesn't completely influence everything else or something like that). now, back to W.E.T.,controversy and cries of racism would be bad, but there is no all-white network, even though the majority of TV shows feature white casts, but no one said anything when B.E.T. was erected so idk.if ppl really want it give it to them, if it has goos shows i would watch it, if not i wouldn't.things with race can really be blown out-of-proportion, so i guess we don't know till we try.btw, Gilmore Girls rox!!and Michelle' is of some african decsent and he's super funny, and he's french!

Black Angel - July 21, 2006 04:56 AM (GMT)
There is no need for a W.E.T. because aside from foreign language stations, and B.E.T. they are ALL W.E.T..

My problem wiith B.E.T. is that they are perpetuating the stereotype about black people.. the need to trash the raunchy videos, and the rap and the hip hop, and show programing that will enable blacks to rise up, and not settle for being treated like a second-class citizen.. and shoe them that they need to strive to become something other than a gun-wielding, video ho screwing, wannabe gangsta rapper..

It can't be about majority, because whites are no longer the majority in this country.. people of mixed race are now the majority, because it just doesnt apply to white people..

you have:

blacks and jews
whites and blacks
blacks and asians
asians and whites
spanish and asians
spanish and whites
etc.. and that is not EVEN counting the immigrants..

with they many MANY races and ethnicities in this country, constantly mixing and integrating, it would be IMPOSSIBLE for ANY specific race to be the majority in this country..

I think that there should be more diversity... PERIOD.. there should be more representation of other races, gays, and mixed races, in tv and movies.. if the animators of cartoons get it.. why can't tv and movie producers?

All-AmericanFFNerd - July 21, 2006 05:43 AM (GMT)
ur right about B.E.T. being about the black stereotype.that's what i dislike about it.i might love it if it didn't have rappers and trashy girls with way too much cleavage.W.E.T. might be bad, but in it's current state, is B.E.T. any better.white ppl areno longer the majority of course, because America has become so diverse and many have come here in hopes of a better life and jobs, etc. etc. so on and so forth.

Mystic Mage - July 21, 2006 05:50 AM (GMT)
B.E.T and W.E.T Shouldn't be allowed at all... But heck it's not over here so how would i know?

Black Angel - July 21, 2006 05:52 AM (GMT)
B.E.T . was created because there really is no other network that reaches out to the black community.. white people can change the channel if they dont want to see a show with black people in it.. but blacks couldnt do that.. bet is a cable channel and a lot of blacks dont have cable.. so that only leaves UPN 9, which will be non existant come september..

it's not right.. if blacks dont want to see a show with a predominate or total cast of white people, they either have to turn off their tv, or get cable.. BET was created because there is no variety out there.. making a W.E.T would be stupid, and an obvious case of reverse-racism.

They should have put on programming that speaks to the black community, instead of showing rappers wielding guns and showing the "bling" and showing girls with their asses so close to the camera, you could smell the Vagisil..

that is true, and i wonder how u get so much humorous, yet true things in this discussion?well, the true is, we can't do n e thing to make BET better unless we write angry letters or protest lol.change takes time, and hopefully one day, all TV will be respectable and diversified.now i'm going to bed.night all sweer dreams and such

Black Angel - July 22, 2006 01:31 AM (GMT)
i am sure i posted this in another topic, but i'll post this here anyway..

the people complaining about bet, really need to get a grip.. they are only mad because white faces are not being shown every where.. and so because someone decided to make a place on television to reach out to its community, they are going to complain? they are ticked off because they flipped the channel and saw a few shows that had a lot of faces on it that were black instead of white.. seriously.. there is no need for a W.E.T. because they exist all over.. people have been complaining about UPN 9 for the same reasons, and it makes me sick to my stomach.. of all the television stations on cable and regular tv, UPN 9 and BET are the only two stations that i know of that have actually reached out to the black community. the messed up thing about that now is that this fall, UPN will be merging with the WB to form the CW network and the likely result will be that the majority of the shows on the new network will have a predominate or entire cast of white people.. therefore making B.E.T. the only station that reaches out to the black community once again..

these people sit up and complain about bet and how there isnt many white people on B.E.T. when there are already 100s of stations out there that broadcast shows which have a predominate or entire casting of white people. ABC, NBC, CBS, WB11, HBO.. and the list goes on.. A network executive decided to put some variety out there by creating B.E.T. and people start complaining about it. BET was launched because the majority of television programs out here.. have a predominate casting of white people. friends, fraser, everybody loves raymond, desperate housewives and the list goes on and on.. in fact there are only a handful of shows out there featuring a predominate cast of black people. mind you, i am not saying that those tv shows are geared towards white people, but in BET's defense, they are only trying to put some variety out there just like UPN 9 of new york. It is a shame that BET is only available on cable, too.. Mind you, if i were to turn my tv on, and randomly pick a channel, i can guarantee you that it would land on a station airing a show that would have a predominate cast of white people. If some whites don't like it, then they can turn the channel.. before B.E.T. came along, we did not have that option. So what, if we dont want to see a show that has a lot of white people in it, what do we do turn off the tv? That doesnt seem fair now does it? I think that there should be more stations like B.E.T. out there, and this way there would be more variety out there. it is not about racism and/or discrimnation.

I would also like to point out that the only forms of racism i have ever seen acted out on a sitcom, were on sitcoms with a majority cast of black people.. the best example would be of an episode of the jeffersons, Louise, & Florence went to a cpr class, and where George and Tom, went to what they thought was a tenant meeting to discuss the recent robberies in the building, when it turned out to be a klan meeting.. the scene flipped back to the CPR class, Florence & Louise were performing mouth to mouth on a dummy, and when the instructer called on two white men (who later turned out to be father and son, and the same people who were at the klan meeting) to show what they had learned, they replied, "i don't touch nothing that touched the lips of a ni**er" later on the scene went back to the meeting, and long story short, the head speaker had a heart attack and passed out.. and even though George was very angry at the speaker for calling him 'Boy' he went and gave the man mouth to mouth, and saved his life.. then son thanked George for saving his father's life.. Later when they had him on a stretcher, the father asked what happened and the son told him that he had a heart attack, and that if it werent for George he would have died. The father looked at George and then looked at his son, and told him, "you should have let me die." After that, the other white men in the meeting, dropped their papers, shook their head and left.. when the leader came to the son, he told him that it was up to him to keep his fathers dream alive.. and handed him the papers.. the son stood up, tore up the papers and left. I have never seen anything like that being shown on friends, or frasier, or gilmore girls.. or any other show having a majority cast of white people..

I once saw a commercial about racism where this white woman, and this black woman were talking in an elevator and suddenly, the elevator stops and a black man got on, and the white lady clenched her bag.. when the 2 women got off the black lady asked her "what was that all about?" the white lady replied, "it was just a reaction.." the black lady replied "To me, it isn't" and walked away.. the end of the commercial said "End Racism" (or something to that effect..) The only places i have seen that commercial was on BET, and UPN 9.. that commercial should be shown everywhere, and not just on stations where the target audience is black.. that gives the impression that only blacks are racist, and that it is up to them to end it.. what about white people? why aren't commercials like this being shown on stations where the majority of the audience is white?

the one thing that really bothers me is how some will see a black and a white person together, and feel the need to say that 'they're "ok" with it' i think that that person having to say that out loud indicates that they really aren't "ok" with it.. The episode of everybody loves raymond where Robert started hanging out with his partner, and brought her home to meet his family.. everyone else seemed to be normal.. they acted no different towards her as if it were anyone else.. except for Marie, who kept saying "i'm ok with it.."

in addition to blacks being under represented in hollywood, television, and commercials, you also don't see a lot of interraccial couples/families. you always see a white man, with a white lady, and a white baby.. or a black man, with a black woman, and a black baby.. never white man, with a black woman, and a mixed baby, and vice versa.. the only times see an interracial couple on a sitcom now, is one sitcoms with a predominate casting of black people. The only other times i have seen an interracial couple, was on Blossom, when Anthony married a black woman in vegas, and they had a baby.. on Fresh Prince of Bel-air, when Will's aunt was getting married to a white man, and on Will & Grace, when Grace was dating Will's boss (played by the late-Gregory Hines.) unfortunately, you also don't see any gay comedies with black people out there either.. I am not particularly happy about that either..

Black Angel - July 22, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
yep, i posted it here..

http://ffsx.sytes.net/index.php?showtopic=1626

oh well.. it still applies to this topic..

All-AmericanFFNerd - July 22, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
omg that show where the guy said "u should have let me die" that is WRONG!*twitches each time u mention the super awesome gilmore girls* UPN 9......*thinking* omg! UPN had that really awesome show!!!i can't recall the name!!!well i loved that show, but now i can't even remember it or n e thing about it lol.if i heard the name i might remember it....well i don't like BET in it's current state.they need to make it more family friendly.some of the images depicted are close to adult periphinalia(porn).it's not respectable, or decent television, it's great that there is one, but it needs to be better, if it is the only station with prodominately black casts.if there is only one, it needs to better represent the black community.in it's current state, BET is the channel which i immediately go past.well that's all i have 2 say 4 now

All-AmericanFFNerd - July 22, 2006 02:12 AM (GMT)
i didn't use periphinallia right, did i?and i didn't spell it right either lol

Black Angel - July 22, 2006 02:18 AM (GMT)
BET wasn't the only one, as of now there is UPN 9, which is good, and is nothing like BET.. but this fall they are merging with WB11 to form the CW Network.. when i am at my moms house, i only watch BET because they have the sitcoms.. but i do not watch rap city, or 106 and park..

Gilmore girls is a good show.. and I bet that Lorelai ends up pregnant, and wont know who the father is.. but yeah gilmore girls is a good show, and i like that everybody in star's hollow has their "stuff" (where stuff = issues, quirks, and/or idiosyncrases.. ) that, and one tree hill, and some of the sitcoms like Reba, are some od the better shows on that station..

All-AmericanFFNerd - July 22, 2006 02:50 AM (GMT)
lol she just might end up pregnant...and luke will be the father!that would be one weird kid lol.kirk is hilarious, in a weird way lol.we drifted kinda off topic, didn't we?lol

Black Angel - July 22, 2006 03:07 AM (GMT)
i dunno, she did sleep with chris, and i have seen that storyline at least a dozen times before..

boy meets girl..

boy proposes to girl..

boy and girl have a fight..

girl calls off engagement..

girl (upset) bumps into her ex and sleeps with him..

girl ends up pregnant..

girl doesn't know who the father is..

anywho, back on topic..

All-AmericanFFNerd - August 5, 2006 05:30 AM (GMT)
i'm not sure much more can be said about this topic...
