thats less likely to happen then a smoker geting cannser
it very rarly happens
well I still dont smoke marijuana or anything else
ok here is my take on this.. this will be a big post, but this is my opinion..
i don't smoke anything...(unless im cooking.. joking) however i am for the legalization of it. ONLY in extreme cases like that woman who has to smoke up in order to allieviate her pain from cancer treatments.. since nothing that the doctor prescribed her had alleviated her pain, he prescribed marijuana.. In this case, then the need for it would be dire. I dont believe that people who need it to help ease their pain should suffer just because a lot of people out there want to escape reality. I've read the papers, and I've seen the news, and a lot of the people against the legalization looked at it from a point of view where if it were legalized then every crackhead (young and old would have a free for all...no offense to those who smoke) but this is they way they spin things, never mind the fact that there are actually a small percentage of people who use it for its medicinal purposes. so in other words, these people against its legalization, are putting those who are ill and in dire need of the drug in the same category as those who who get high just for the fun of it, and I DO NOT THINK THAT IS FAIR AT ALL.
I think that it should be legalized WITH A STRICT SET OF GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO SUPERVISION, A STRICT SET AMOUNT PER MONTH, (and it has to be prescribed has to how much that patient can smoke per treatment, if the patient runs out then he/she would have to go back to the doctor and go through the procedure (again) for approval) AND A LETTER FROM THE HEAD PHYSICIAN IN CHARGE OF THAT PATIENTS DEPARTMENT, AS WELL AS THAT PATIENTS PHYSICIAN, IN ADDITION TO, 2 OTHER PHYSICIANS IN THAT SAME DEPARTMENT. (i'm not sure what they call it in regards to hospitals so please forgive the obscurity..) THE DECISION WOULD ALSO HAVE TO BE UNANIMOUS AMONG THE 4 PHYSICIANS (if it is not unanimous then the physician against it would have to submit documentation stating why (medically speaking and it would have to be backed up with proof) he or she believes that this would do more harm then good to the patient's situation. if the permission is granted then the person would be required to have an attendant by his/her side (to prevent abuse) and if it were declined then the patient can always appeal (this would also have to be taken before a judge) i hope you all get what i am trying to say, these are just some ways that they could legalize it and have some form of control over the situation... all i am trying to say is that they should legalize the drug, and have a very strict set of requirements to get that drug prescribed to them. this way the people who really need it can get the help they need. the same, however, cannot be said for other drugs out there...
Some will suggest and age restriction.. but here's my take.. an age restriction would be ideal, but would it really hold up? i mean look for example, the age limit to buy tobacco (in any form) is 18 right? and yet there are so many 13yo's smoking cigarettes. the age limit to buy alcohol is 21 right? yet there are so many teens out here getting drunk. marijuana is different though, if you were one of those patients who needed it to allieviate your pain, you could get a doctor note and prescription saying as such couldn't you? you cant say the same about alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs (i.e heroine, and ecstacy). these things should be outlawed. because nothing good comes from being drunk, or walking around reaking of smoke. and if you really need to have a cigarette, or a drink in your hand or you need to be high in order to have a good time then that really doesnt say much about you as a person now does it?
Reality in itself isnt something that can or should be avoided; and so those of you who think so are kidding themselves. but back to the original point, i think it is absolutely disgusting that a lot of kids and teens take pleasure in getting high.. wtf are the parents doing about their 13 and 14yo's out here getting high? (mind you i am not directing this to you or any1 else) an age restriction just wont cut it. If they do legalize marijuana, i can guarantee that it would only be temporary, I cant see the concept of people getting high to ease pain sitting too well with the FDA and the Department of Health can you? and you had better believe that they would expeditiously produce an alternative to marijuana, that is less controversial and better for your health.
People will likely point out that Alcohol was once outlawed and then legalized with a few restrictions and use that as the primary point in their arguement.. but lets not forget that, alcohol was outlawed for 1 reason... prohibition, we outlawed it then to preserve the resources it took to make it, (i.e., barley, to make beer, potatoes, to make vodka, grapes, to make wine... etc.) since the country was starving because of the Great Depression. it is not as if we outlawed it to protect our children. I think it would be good for our country and for society, if it were outlawed. think about it like this, if we preserved all of the grains, and other edible resources we use to make alcohol, we would have something to combat one of our biggest issues in this country... and that is feeding the poor. we are one of the richest countries in the world, and next to tokyo, we are the most advanced in technology, and yet we have a lot of homeless hungry people out there. don't get me wrong, if i see a person on the subway asking for money, or food, if i have it to give, you had better believe that i am going to contribute. how ever, about 75% of the homeless people i see daily smell like alcohol, cigarettes, or even that disgusting stench of weed.. yes, poser1 drugs are illegal, the reason we are not cracking down on it is unknown to me. me personaly, i put drug dealers in the same category as terrorists, and i believe they should be treated as such. but thats just me. i believe this country would be a hell of a lot better without the presence of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. we cannot control this planet, but we can control this country to an extent. people are so quick to blame the media or their children's friends, but i blame the parents, because a good education doesnt start at school, it starts at home and at a very early age in the childs life. about ecstacy, i do not need a drug to enjoy my um.... uhh... umm... "personal life" if you cant get that "special feeling" from the person that you are "dancing" with, then you have 4 options... (where dancing = sex or f*cking)
1. stop "dancing" altogether or dance by your self.
2. take dancing lessons
3. talk to your "dancing partner" and suggest that you get the necessary "tools" to help you both get your rhythm's in sync with one another (dancing can be good if you are careful not to step on your partners toes)
4. find another "dancing" partner
and if you really need a drug to help you um...be a better dancer, then that is all the more reason you should not be dancing in the first place. if you cant get the right feeling from your dancing partner, then you should wait until you have more knowledge on dancing and wait until the right person comes along. i believe that drugs (alcohol and tobacco included) should be outlawed (excluding marijuana) all they contribute to society is self destruction, chaos, and even death. if you want to get that light headed feeling, then spin around and around while counting to 1000. that way it is only you doing that and and no one else gets hurt. i believe that drug dealers should be treated as terrorists. and if they are caught, they should get the highest amount of jail time possible or at least 45 years if they plead guilty. people with multiple convictions should get life in prison. the people that are out-of-control; with addiction and/or usage, should be institutionalized for as long as it takes for it to be completely out of their system. and once released they would be put on probation for a long time (or indefinately). i know that these are really strict, but it seems as if the only way people will get the message about anything is if we (in general) seriously crack down on it. look at the smoking ban for instance, more and more places here are cracking down on smokers and they do not allow smoking in their establishments.
Bottom line, anything that reduces your inhibitions, and clouds your judgement is not good for you or for society. i don't understand why kids would think any differently? i am 24 years old. and i have been through my share of hell, from being forced on by someone who was high, to pregnancy (and then the miscarriages), homelessness etc. and just about every other hell you can imagine for a young woman to go thru (starting at the age of 15) i am proud to say that i survived it all, and not once did i have to get drunk or high in order to help me deal with any of it. the things that i know now i didnt learn from school or a book, i learned it from life experience. i like being aware of my surroundings and having control over the situations that i am in. that and the fact that i learn from the mistakes of others and i am smart enough to realize that being high or drunk isnt going to make things any easier for me in the longrun. that is why i dont do drugs (unless given to me by a doctor or it was bought from a pharmacy) or get drunk. in regards to peer pressure, i was too smart, and too stubborn to give in to it, and i questioned everything. if someone said to me "everyone is doing it, c'mon try it" i'd say "if that's the case, then you really need to lay off of that $hit, because everyone i see is laughing at you." and before they could even reply i had already walked away. (the irony of it is that they say that the new york city educational system is the best in the country, and yet there are somethings that school does not prepare you for.) life is something that is hard enough to learn from already with out the influence of alcohol and drugs. things like social anxiety, can be dealt with by means other then getting inebriated or strung out, that is, if the person is strong enough to handle the issues at hand and do the right thing. all alcohol and drugs does is give you a crutch to lean on and provide you with a scapegoat to keep you from pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and taking responsibility for your actions. That is why i believe that they should be outlawed. In all reality drugs and alcohol, doesnt make anything any easier to deal with now, it just makes it harder to deal with later on.
More teenagers smoke because basically peer pressure
