Title: IPOD vs. ZEN?

Mr. Nest - July 3, 2006 10:48 AM (GMT)
IPOD or ZEN?

apple has created several versions of the IPOD over the past couple years updating and refining the formula of its success, starting with the first revision of adding usb capability for windows users. The first generation pods were Mac only, to adding a miniature LCD screen and calling it an IPOD Photo.
Creative has only two or by now three incarnations of its jukebox zen, so it hasnt had as much time to make the interface as natural and seamless as apple has, but Creative labs has a longer history of Hard drive jukeboxes, the nomad was first and that was over 6 years ago and it was a 10 gigabyte laptop hard drive (it looked like a cd player)

also there is one big difference between the pod and zen, file types. IPOD plays MP3's, AAC, WMA, and AIFF.
zen doesent play as well with others, it works with MP3's,and WMA files, so the choice is up to you.

zen also boasts a longer battery life and a lower price tag than the ipod, so i leave the decision up to you.

I think i would prefer IPOD....

i like ipod but you have to admit that the price is a major turnoff.. that and the fact that it seems that everybody has one..and vz, there are programs for ipods as well but they are third party.. i use ephpod 2 whenever i am putting music onto my ipod. that program is the best. the ipod supports the following formats .aac, .mp3, .wav, .aa, .m4a, .mp4, and .m4p. and since i wont dare use a .wav file on my ipod, i'll stick with .mp3 that way i dont have to worry about downloading programs to convert to either of the other formats.

personally, if i didnt already have an ipod, i'd get the zen jukebox.. they are cheaper, have move storage, a lot friendlier when it comes to file-transfer, and support more formats.. and they have a longer battery life. I find myself having to charge my ipod everyday.. i may need a new battery.. so in my opinion i think the ipod is just as good as the zen jukebox.

i prefer creative. i have had the best experiance with them, and all of their products have been the best for me. i currently have a zen vision: M and a zen nano plus(out before ipod nano, ipod stole the name) i had borrowed my friends ipod for a while and i could never get completely used to it. .. but to each his own

lol, its like ff vs. ie. (zen vs. ipod) one is better, but the other is used more often

Actually I'd say the only thing Apple has going for them right now is the Ipod market... but i still wouldn't buy an ipod, why?
1- everybody has one, so if i wanted to be original, i'd not be able to stand out from the masses if i carried what they're carrying (but luckily i really don't care what everyone else does, i'm looking for the best music player. so onto #2)

2- battery life- the ipod has what? 10-20 hours battery life? well i really don't feel like dumping a fortune into batteries into the thing, even with rechargable batteries, its still gonna be alot of irritance to charge it up sometimes twice a day...

3- amount of storage- ok the ipod (or any hard drive based unit) wins, at a massive amount of storage (but anything over 60 gigs is just plain excessive, it'd take 15000 songs at 4 megs or 20000 at 3 megs just to fill that sucker, and when will anyone have the time to listen to that many songs, and besides who actually likes that many songs?)

so all in all, i'll sacrifice the storage capacity for batter longevity, (with my current mp3 player, i have a 512mb flash memory model that lasts for about 70 hours on a single triple a battery.)

I have a 20 gb ipod, and i have about 879 songs..

but I lonly listen to about 10 or 12 songs, from each playlist.. and when i am out, i only listen to about 1 or 2 playlists.. and that's it.. but hey it is good to have the space, and I use it like an external hd.. and yet i still have about 15 gigs to go through..

ssquirrelkid - October 26, 2006 02:28 AM (GMT)
you know what i think they should both just go away what wrong with a cd player i mean come on you still have to buy cd to put in the ipods and zen unless you want to risk geting vruies downloading them i mean come on 10 buck cd player or a 200 buck small thin eazy to lose ipod all of it is just point less

VirusZero - October 26, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
no, going to cd players is a step backwards, they hold less songs, skip if moved, have high power demands (due to moving parts and the lazer) and thus lower battery life.
if your worried about viruses, then don't get your music from illegal sources, buy them from apple's itunes and your guaranteed not to get a virus from it, plus then your legally allowed to have mp3s in the US.

I have an MP3 Cd Player that BlackDevilX got me for christmas 2 years ago..

It was great!

It played Mp3 Data CD's so it plalyed more than you average cd player..

It also had and AM/FM tuner.. (though, I hardly used it..)

However it went through batteries, like a hot knife through butter..

Also, like with any other cd player, it skipped, and it was a headache having to carry my favorite cds..

With my ipod, that is not an issue..

I brought one of those things about 3 years back... it's on the end of its life so I'm getting an IPod or a Mp3 player for my b-day. The only worry i has is that i take these things to school everyday... although i keep them out of site i think that an IPod nano is risky as it's thin... but then Mp3 players are ugly and IPods have been known for it's effecientcy. I've always found that IPod mini's are the best but they took it off the market... So i'm looking for a good Mp3 player... if i don't get any luck i'm getting an IPod nano

Actually, for your money's worth, you'd be better off getting a Zen.. I have seen a lot of nice ones out there..

The Zen is more efficient because you get more for your money's worth..

They also support more formats too..

I have seen a lot of peole asking for .aac to .mp3 converters..

And mini's are off the market over there?

They still sell them over here.. everybody and their grandma has one over here..

Snowflame - October 27, 2006 05:30 PM (GMT)
But could someone tell me what is a ZEN?

Mystic Mage - October 30, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
Lucky... I think the mini's over all best IPod... but they didn't sell that well over here i was told... And i've never heard of a ZEN so i'm stuck with getting an IPod Nano :-_-:

Black Angel - October 30, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
I have seen a lot of people here with nanos..

I bet these are the same people who once had the minis...

I wouldn't get the nano.. it looks like a waste of money, and it looks like you could snap it in half with no real effort..

Mystic Mage - October 31, 2006 07:04 AM (GMT)
The old ones... yes... I'm gonna get a couple of cases... they've reinforced the ones out today
