Title: Hotlinking..

Since there are some of you who are still confused about what it is, and why we do not allow it, I will do my best to explain it.

We do not allow hotlinking because you are basically stealing bandwidth from the person who owns the website that you hotlinked from...

This is traceable, the webmaster usually replaces the image with something that is TOS-Offensive, and then files a complaint with the Invisionfree Abuse Department. And in turn, this board will get shut down for a tos violation..

Someone asked why would we be allowed to upload and hotlink from imageshack, if we are not allowed to hotlink from servers not hosted by invisionfree..

that is because imageshack is an IMAGE HOST, they are also hosted on a dedicated server, that is why you can upload as many images as you like, as well as hotlink them and they have unlimited bandwidth.

However, images that are hosted on another website, are not.. the webmasters have to pay for that bandwidth.

imageshack allows hotlinking, (as stated in this FAQ's as well as their TOS) and is why you should upload your images to that site, and hotlink it from there. Worse comes to worse, they can always remove your image if it is using too much bandwidth (i.e. if you have your image shown on a topsites list..) and you will have to re-upload it..

Click here (<= click.) to upload an image to imageshack, or click here (<= click.) to see a list of image hosts that allow hotlinking.

i wouldn't say you hotlink from imageshack because that gives the idea that you are doing something wrong, but your not, imageshack's whole purpose for being is to provide a place where people can host images for free to use.
