Title: Religion
Description: What's yours?
Mystic Mage - September 27, 2006 04:24 PM (GMT)
I was just wondering what your veiws on religion are... Are you of a certain faith? Do you beleive any of it? Some stories you may of heard about how religion effects people or your life. Religion affects every day life... the media are very weird about it and are against certain religions and give them bad name
I'm no religious but i do beleive in God and Angels from the cristian faith.
I heard about a muslim trying to enter America. He wasn't aloud to because he recently gave money to a charity trying to help kids... And thanks to his gratefulness they thought he was a Terrorist. He didn't get any say at the court...
Also there was something about Madonna going on a cristian cross dressed like jesus on stage with pictures of what was happening in Africa in the background trying to help the Africans... then there was an uproar and they thought it was bad... When she was doing it gor a good reason...

I'm not of any faith.. i beleive partly in christianity but not Jesus only God ,Angels and all that... I try to go to churches examine them decide whether to beleive it or not... I say Joan Of Arc in a church in France and she was a St... And i saw pictures of hell... the story of Mary... And I go around looking at these... play with it in my mind... That's the way i kinda work... It's an enjoyable experience but aslo really upsetting... I always want to see signs that things are real but they nether come
Black Angel - September 27, 2006 04:58 PM (GMT)
I'll say it like this.. to get through life on this planet, you'd have to believe in something.. just for piece of mind..
If people didn't believe that there was a heaven, or the possibility that they could see their loved ones once again in death, then there would be even more chaos on this planet.. people would be so afraid, and paranoid of death, that they become insane.. and would end up on a self-destructive path.
I don't understand the concept of a religious war.. I really don't..
Monotheistic religions emulate one another.. whether it is God, Yahweh, Allah, etc.. it is still ONE SUPREME BEING.. and all the same person.. i mean if they all believe in one ruler, and that is true, then that would mean that that supreme being, would have a lot of names.
Polytheistic religions kind of humanized God, in that they believe that it was impossible to be everywhere at once.. so they believed that God had a system, which was run in the same way that a corporation is run.. There was still a supreme being, but he had delegates to oversee different aspects of life.. there was one god for the sky, one for water, one for fire, and one for earth, etc. etc.. but guess what? If you put all of those gods, goddesses, and demigods together, what do you have? You would still get one supreme being.
One more thing, there is no such thing as a right, or a wrong religion, in the same way that there is no such thing as a right or a wrong opinion.
A religion, by definition is a set of beliefs.. beliefs that may vary from person to person. Given that, even atheism is a religion. And because these beliefs, are usually based on what people personally believe to be true, and not on fact, they, like opinions, cannot be proven right or wrong.
Mystic Mage - September 27, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah we're dicussing that in R.E.
Maybe religion is just an idea to make death not a big worry and that we'll see them again in the comfort of heaven... maybe it's alll a mumbo jumbo that we come back to life when we die just so you know it won't stop there. Maybe those christian storys are to keep us in order so we'd hope not to go to hell.... Maybe god's not real and science made us... but then... Maybe God is real... Maybe religion is real... We have no evidence to say it is or isn't.
But you may say Yes... you may say No... It's your choise and no one in the world has the right to make you beleive what you don't want to beleive... Everyone will have a beleif even if it's not a religion or if it's science... It's still a beleif, a theory or even a story.
As i may of said... I'm fasinated by the churches, the art, the storys and the effort people have done for their religion... Some people will beleive becuase something cause they've had signs in their dreams... Some people will beleive because something has happened in their life... Or just because they're inspired by other people, maybe a vicar, maybe your parents. It's your choise to make and no others.
Snowflame - September 27, 2006 06:24 PM (GMT)
Gee you both wrote alot of stuff.
MaranX - September 27, 2006 06:43 PM (GMT)
Well. like a lot of people in my country I'm cathoilc christian, but I'm not very religious. Sometimes I don't want to believe in God because when I see all the things which happen on the world like wars, terrorism and stuff. Of course like it was written in Bible, God gave humans a free will to do good and evil. Okay, but the what about diseases, floods, earhquakes, tornados and other things like that? They weren't created beacuse of humans' evilness. As for me there are only two possibilities:
God doesn't exists.
He's pure evil and doesn't want to help his human children.
In medieval times I would probably be burnt for heresy, but that's the other point. The point is that although I go for religous lessons and stuff, I just can't believe in all things which bible says. They have both diffrent history of earth and humans. Bible says that world was created like 5000 years ago. Science says that it was created like 4,6 billions years ago. Bible says that the first human was the man from whose rib woman was created (wtf!?). Science says that first human was a woman who gave the birth to all people on the world both male and female. On the world there are hundrets of diffrent religions in which every person claims that her/his is right. That gives a conclusion that humans created it just to know what happens after death. Did I mention that christian religion is the only one where you for being bad come to hell forever?
Snowflame - September 27, 2006 06:46 PM (GMT)
That really explains alot.
Mystic Mage - September 27, 2006 06:59 PM (GMT)
Don't they have the Purgatory where you have to decide where to go... heaven or hell? I'd hate that...
Maybe God's just lazy... But you make a point... those things don't happen because of us... earth quakes happen cause of the way the planets made... volcanoes aswell... but Hurricans and Tornadoes come with the weather... disease comes from vermin, uncooked food... mainly out of no where really...
But here's my counter
Maybe God has his part and so does the devil... maybe God and the Devil is as powerful as each other... So the devil can reak havoc when the time comes and that's how the hurricans come from no where... if he lives in a place where there's rock and fire... fire makes earthquake and volcanoes happen as hot magma rises reaches the tops and cools and sinks... that makes the plates move... But then the plates make land, sea. Iceland is made where 2 plates are moving away... so maybe god's counterattacked the devil so we can have more land.
Just think there's more than one being involved in the world...
Snowflame - September 27, 2006 07:27 PM (GMT)
Do you read bibles? I did read one.
thefishofdoom - September 27, 2006 08:58 PM (GMT)
sorry but my therois wound make your head explode
VirusZero - September 27, 2006 09:09 PM (GMT)
my problem with religion is this:
god is suppose to be all knowing, all powerful and perfectly benevolent.
but now if god existed, why the f*** would his eminence allow his greatest creation to suffer so much with epidemics/disease and natural disasters. why would he allow these diseases and disasters to destroy his creation, and you can't tell me "because it keeps the population down" because thats a load of crap, god is supposedly kind towards humans so to allow such harm would be against his nature. millions of deaths for population control isn't fair as god is suppose to be. and forget blaming satan because god is supposedly all powerful he could easily stop satan. so strike one, god is not benevolent
now if god was all knowing he could easily have forseen all that would happen and change it with his whim, but apparently he messed up because lucifer turned on him which if he was all knowing he would have seen and therefore would not have created lucifer so he could not have turned on him. strike two for god, god is not all knowing.
and for god being all powerful he doesn't seem to do much any more, infact i'd say for the last 2000 years he hasn't done anything, when he could have used his power so many times and helped, as part of the faith god is supposed to reward his true believers right? well shouldnt he help his true believers on earth when their alive to show that he does care and is ready to help his believers. so if god does have omnipotent powers he clearly doesn't seem to care using them to benefit anyone but himself (as demonstrated by his clear lack of willing to help people). thats another strike against his all knowing and his perfectly benevolent nature. so for his all powerful nature it's hard to even say he does have that much power no one has ever seen him use it, ( natural events don't count, they are perfectly explainable.)
the disproving of even one of the points of god means that god is fallible which by definition makes it impossible that god exists because it means that he defies his own laws (which is basically set out in the bible correct?) so therefore he mustn't exist.
now if god doesn't exist how could satan, a fallen angel created by god, exist.
Sephiroth - September 27, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)
You know, this might be a little strange, but if you wacth chrono crusade some of your questions can be aswsered belive me...at least it agrees with you when you're talking about that god is the savior and that he's going to save it all...right, it would be good if that was true...in the series a character says that god ins't the creator but just a pupet master that likes to play with its creations and doens't care about what can hapen to them, cause like so their esence is so fragile that they can break in an instant, and god is the one that's in charge of breaking those pupets(we humans)...
blazermax - September 27, 2006 09:29 PM (GMT)
dang VZ thats a very touching speach about god not existing but if you dont belive in god who do you belive in.....matter of fact WHAT do you belive in do you think that anything is what it is or do you just go with the flow and do what you want ???
VirusZero - September 27, 2006 09:57 PM (GMT)
As corny as it sounds (you've probably heard it from every anime but still)
I believe in myself and my own abilities. And for the most part I just go with the flow for each situation, I don't get to riled up, but you know once it happens look out. As for doing what I want, for the most part I follow with what I am supposed to do.
Sephiroth - September 27, 2006 10:03 PM (GMT)
And it's a good thing you think like that...we can't depend on others to do our stuff, specialy on things that we don't even see...we must have a self confidence feeling always present with us...things don't hapen by miracle, things hapen because we make them hapen...it's we who conduct our lifes, not some superticious name that's supost to have all the anwsers...anyway i think that you resemble so much with Aion in so many ways VirusZero( Aion is a character from chrono crusade), exept you're not a demon...he believes that we are our own god's, we make miracles hapen...just like you...
A.J. The Echidna - September 28, 2006 12:23 AM (GMT)
Actually the all knowing God thing can be explained by Jhonen Vasquez's JTHM. God is just taking a very long rest and has turned into a fat baby in a Lazy Boy recliner. I know what you're thinking, "A.J. and Vasquez are going to Hell!" but just think about this situation for a bit.

Ahem... that's another idea on why we have suffering and loving... There's a God and a Devil... Mmm maybe Devil is not weak and god not so strong so we mix and have good things and bad things... There's always two or more sides to a war... and you've got one happening on Earth between Heaven and Hell... It's a possibillity

You got a point there...
VirusZero - September 28, 2006 03:08 PM (GMT)
the sad truth is:
"from the moment we are born every second we are alive, we are dying"
but for the devil/ Lucifer, have a hard time accepting he exists as well. God would know before he created him if he was going to turn on him, so therefore God could have prevented it from ever happening, simply by not creating lucifer the angel.
but as the bible said : God is perfect so that means he/she/it/they (which because we don't know if God has a gender, so for simplicity sake i'm going to call it male, it could be female i dunno ) is all knowing, all powerful and benevolent...
but by disproving even one of those points (which i actually disporved all 3 in a previous post.), it means god is NOT perfect and therefore violates it's own laws as said in the bible. so if one of those parts about god isn't true and god is a perfect being then god is not perfect and therefore defies it's own name. which cannot happen. so god cannot exist.
Dark Mage - September 28, 2006 03:13 PM (GMT)
I agree VZ,I learnt the hard way that there is no God last year.
If this so called God is allmighty and perfect,he/she could of stopped all the bad stuff from happening before it happened.
Like 9/11,World War 1,2 and Vietnam and such.

Sephiroth - September 28, 2006 03:28 PM (GMT)
You canot prevent human actions DM, that's the truht...god is a name with a reputation to keep, so no matter how we try to convince ourselfs that he doens't exist he will always be present with you, cause as long as you have the kwnolege of that word, you will always have doubts about supernatural things...sure you can chose a path of loneliness and live life by yourself, by your own rules, but words like "Thank god" or "My god" will always come out of your mouth, even if you don't meant it...Anyway, things are like we see them no matter what and my signature explains this question better...We are our own God's...we make miracles hapen...not words with an irrelevant meaning....
Dark Mage - September 28, 2006 03:36 PM (GMT)
We can't do jack crap Sephiroth, sure,we can create machines and stuff but we can't control when we die and if bad stuff'll happen.

Sephiroth - September 28, 2006 03:46 PM (GMT)
But i'm not talking about death or or when bad things hapen DM...you misunderstood me...what i said was, in a more filosofic way, that we can't rely on others to do our things, we have to be self confident and always try hard to achieve our goals, that's what i meant when i said that we make our own miracles, that we're our own god's...Death...is something inevitable, all living and non-living things must have an end someday, you're right about that and when bad stuff hapen...well...too bad, maybe next time we'll be more lucky...but you can't say that we can't do sh*t, cause we can, we make our own future, we are the future...

yeah its all the same god cuase in the 10 commandments we are not to use gods name in vain so other people came up with different names but they aere still worshiping the same god
EDIT:when ya die its stated in the bible that the dead would rise back on earth and jesus will take all his belivers with him while satan keeps the bad people on earth for eternal punishment...then its said that god comes and kicks his ass
to be honest if god is really real i dont care where i will go i dont care wearther its heavn or hell...im not scared of some douche bag with horns a tail and a trident thingymahjig...he looks like a fool whose been playing to much DBZ budokaiand started to dress up after him...yes i belive that god is not helping us etc etc but also stated in the bible that jesus passed down his powers to us thus having some peple who can heal...some who can see the futures etc...but really i dont see an important part of it of being so special there is no way to stop the terrorists war unless we can do negotiations but if we wipe out the midle east the united states is done for....korea will just pay a visit and drop bombs its totally useless just to dig a hole and hide...we cant stop that we gota make decisions on our own but if god is real WHY IS HE TAKING SO DAMN LONG!!! seriously we are his creation...our fate can be like the fuck*n dino's but on the other hand we just dont know what to do...George W bush is gay he cant talk no right shit hes trieng to kill us all but abou religion it seems like a mere coincidence cuase all that stuff is in the bibble
and im christian
