What i did is pretty simple. I installed aVNC client on the home computer, and it allows you to either use your computer as a Television in a department store window (watch but don't touch) or to directly access it remotely and do things on it from another location.
the software is free, just google VNC and you will find quite a few different free versions, plus tons of online help to configure it.
------A brief synopsis of what i did-----
after installing the vnc server software i downloaded a free copy of the viewer which can be run from a folder or thumbdrive without installing it for use at work.
then i ran the vnc client on the computer and changed the default settings for a remote connection ( don't want to get 0wned!) to another port of my choosing (instead of the default port of 5200, to something like 3000, or 1776) and put a large complex password for full access and another strong password for viewing only.
Next since my computer connects to a router i had to make some changes on the router for port fowarding (when more than one computer is connected to the net through a router, port fowarding will help send the right signals to the right computer; like you have a desktop and a webserver connected to a router, you would need to foward port 80 to the webserver, so whenever someone tries to access your IP address on port 80 the router will automatically send the info to your webserver and not your desktop) so that any connections to my router on port 1776 (example) will be sent to the computer with vnc installed.
You will also have to make an exception to the rules set up on your firewall for the same.
after all that i opened my web browser and went to ipchicken to get my IP address ( I know i can get it through the routers config screen but i was already on the net so sue me!) write it down and also write the password down and port # then go to work.
at work i plug in my thumbdrive with the viewer software on it and run the vnc.exe, then i put in the IP address followed by the port # (111.222.333.444:1776) then the password (P4SSw0rd!) and voila i have a screen of my desktop at home

...... ........ ........ f'dup
-----Why Should I do it?-----
Now i might as well make a brief comment on reasons why you would do this, besides to freak out your girlfriend, mom, brother, etc...
Lets say you are restricted from accessing the web at work or restricted from what you can acces on the web while at work(like google maps, yahoo, or certain forums i will not mention...) or you have kids at home and you wonder what they are doing on the computer while you are at work (talking to michael jackson in a AOL chatroom) or a wife who is a little shifty sometimes ( talking to Jesse Jackson in a Aol chatroom) this is a good way to keep an eye on em.... or you can use it to place nasty pornographic wallpaper on your roommates computer desktop when you know his mom is visiting... owned
Black Angel - October 3, 2006 01:56 AM (GMT)
You're lucky you're my boyfriend.. otherwise i'd have to kick your ass.. you scared the crap out of me by using that talk it program.. and thw wierd thing is if computers could talk that is probably what it would sound like..
though that would be a cool prank to play on someone.. :)
Dark Mage - October 3, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
If I have kids,I'm gettin me that program.
That would scare the crap outta most people.....
A.J. The Echidna - October 3, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
My dad did that once to acess his compy at work on mine.
Mr. Nest - October 3, 2006 03:03 AM (GMT)
A friend of mine used Talk it! to recreate the part in the excorcist when the girl is posessed and curses out the priest and matched the tone of voice perfectly...... But i wouldn't condone such unscrupulous behavior.... :ph43r:
Dark Mage - October 3, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
B.A would probably slap you for that.
Gameshrk90 - October 3, 2006 03:33 AM (GMT)
Geez! You totally hacked Black Angel's cpu. I'm supprised she hasn't flown completely off the handle. (no offense.)
Black Angel - October 3, 2006 04:47 AM (GMT)
lol nah.. he didn't hack me.. he used a program called tight vnc..
he linked to it in his first post..
but yeah i suppose it is useful.. i mean its not like i do anything incriminating on my computer.. so yeah..
he was able to open and use photoshop and everything..
i opened notepad and typed that message to mess with him..
when i posted this topic, i had just woken up..
and to my surprise, my computer was talking to me and saying 'hey baby.. what are you doing?"
imagine being woken up like that..
Dark Mage - October 3, 2006 04:52 AM (GMT)
That would scare anyone.
That's why next time he should say who it is.
But wait a second, what if the computer was turned off?
Gameshrk90 - October 3, 2006 11:45 AM (GMT)
I'm guessing if it's off it's like the computer doesn't exist.
Black Angel - October 3, 2006 02:51 PM (GMT)
then he'd be out of luck..
Snowflame - October 3, 2006 03:21 PM (GMT)
Gee, I didn't know someone would do something like that.
Mystic Mage - October 3, 2006 08:28 PM (GMT)
My dad normally goes on this thing that tells him what the computers done lately... and constantly asking me if I'm looking at porn (Hell no -.-) and a couple reasons... But he's completely ok with this website (took alot of convincing) but i've nether heard or seen that thing before
Black Angel - October 4, 2006 11:03 PM (GMT)
Why would your dad have a problem with this site?
Dark Mage - October 4, 2006 11:21 PM (GMT)
Overprotective parents do that,I had to convince my mum that this isn't a chat room.
Dictator - October 4, 2006 11:30 PM (GMT)
lol, my parents don't care. They trust me. Just one question. What if your computers share an IP address and port? I think four of the ones at my house do but I know 2 for a fact do.

my bro comes here when im not around...
so its the same IP O.o...
Dictator - October 4, 2006 11:41 PM (GMT)
Yeah it is. I've checked on sites to find my IP address and both computers are listed as the same and running on the same port.
Black Angel - October 5, 2006 12:35 AM (GMT)
In this day and age, therw is no such thing as too much protection..
Especially when it comes to the internet.
But what I don't understand is the problem that some parents have with this site.
Dark Mage - October 5, 2006 12:57 AM (GMT)
Well, parents these days don't know jack bout the internet.
thefishofdoom - October 5, 2006 01:00 AM (GMT)

accept about porn.. not that i use it :-[
Black Angel - November 20, 2006 11:16 PM (GMT)
sometimes parent's "generate" porn..
as in seeing something and then assuming it is porn..
for example.. my brother was in the living room flipping channels, and he came across "Galavision" which is a spanish cable channel.. when he flipped past it it showed a guy sitting on a couch, and he had a woman on each side they were wearing bikini tops, and short skirts.. he didn't stop flipping he just kept going.. we didn't think much of it because we knew that it wasn't porn..
but our mother saw when he flipped past Galavision, and she flipped out.. she flipped out on me because she thought that i was gonna let him watch porn and thought that i did something to the cable box to show porn.. and demanded that he flip back to Galavision, so she could block that channel.. we did.. and to her surprise.. it wasn't porn.. it was a talk show.. and the guy sitting on the couch with the two girls were the singer and dancers who were going to perform on the show..
we told her that it wasn't porn.. but she didn't believe us..
oh well..

my dad is like this ALL the time(my mom trust me even though shes no "internet genius" herself) it's not that parents dont like this site specificly, Its nothing personal. It's jus that they hear stuff about kids being nabbed and raped becuz of the internet every day and they think this will happen to their kids as well.
So basically, their daranged... :idontknow:
Black Angel - November 21, 2006 12:02 AM (GMT)
oh yeah i understand.. but parents need to realize that it is their own ignorance that gets kids hurt..
if parents took time out to actually know where their kids are going on the net then their problem with internet predator would be resolved..
think about it.. if parent were 2 steps ahead of their kids technologically speaking, then they wouldn't have to worry about their kids falling prey to pedophiles, and child molestors..
i mean the first thing the victim's parent's say is how they didn't know...
that is why my mother never had to worry about me and bdx when ever we were online..
A.J. The Echidna - November 21, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
But until then, we'll have to deal with idiot people who say "How could this happen?" and paranoid parents who think there's a pedophile hiding in every email.
Black Angel - November 21, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
those are the same parents who opt to remain ignorant to things of the technical persuasion..
They choose not to learn about computers.. because it doesn't interest them..
but by the same token, when you become a parent, you have an obligation to protect your child.. and part of doing so, is learning about computers..
that way you will know what your kid is up to when he or she is online..
Mystic Mage - November 21, 2006 07:38 PM (GMT)
I think my parents kinda do it by looking at the comp every so often the kicking me off when they feel like it :...:

That's not funny A.J.
:(
VirusZero - November 23, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
must... resist... temptation to use this on my brothers...
screw that, i'm using this on my brother's laptop and the family computer it's gonna be hilarious.

That's going to be a good story to tell at the Christmas party!
VirusZero - November 23, 2006 03:01 AM (GMT)
either that... or if I mis-time things and my dad's using the computer.... it'll be "oh S**T, RUN"
but for my brother's laptop, I can cause all kinds of havoc, maybe make him sign into msn and mess with some of his friends? or change his bg to tubgirl? or some other crazy stuff, I'll just have to see what I can come up with.
saphirekitty - November 23, 2006 03:06 AM (GMT)
