What are your thoughts on it?
for those who don't know what stem cells are read this.

I don't know if i have understood everything correctly, if we don't count destroying the human embryo, this can help people cure many diseases, revover organs, or even whole limbs. Let's hope it will go to the right way.

the thing is that human stem cells are taken from unwanted embryos and aborted fetuses.
the mother has to give the doctor permission to use them.. that is if they want the stem cells to be used..
my thing is this.. if you didn't want the child enough to have an abortion, then why should you care about what becomes of that unwanted embryo or fetus..
especially if that unwanted embryo or fetus, can be used to cure illnesses and diseases?
I think that the mother has every right to make a dscision while the embryo/fetus is inside of her.. but the moment that it isn't because of an abortion, then she relinquishes the right to say anything.
That is like me throwing some garbage out onto the street.. and someone comes along and sees something that they can use, and want to take it for themselves.. but i tell that person that they can't use it because it is my trash even though it is on the street..
Doesn't that seem selfish?
Please forgive my comparison.. I do not mean to compare an unwanted baby to garbage.

I not too comfortable on this subject. Not a good idea if you ask me though.

?
Why dont you think it is a good idea?
an embryo is a cluster of cells.. after 8 weeks, it becomes a fetus and starts to take shape.. at that point, the cells then become assigned to develop organs..
stem cells can help to cure deadly diseases and illnesses..
and they come from unwanted embryos..
so if is not as if they come from the mothers whom are going have the child..
they'd come from those wanting an abortion.
and so, if it can help to cure diseases such as cancer, and can help us in achieving a disease-free world, then why do you think that that is bad? :ermm:
It is synonymous with organ donation. :ermm:

I don't agree. When someone is taking your organs after death you can earlier notpermit it. Embryo isn't able to do that. She/he is innocent and it's not a good way to gain these cells. People are able to create bladder from human cells without taking it from embryo. Maybe it will be possible to create kidneys or even a heart.

I meant in the sense that you would be donating something to help save the life or lives of another person.
Again, if the child isn't wanted by its parents, so much so, that they have an abortion to get rid of it, then what is wrong with using that to save the life of another person, or persons?
If they decide not to sign off on stem cell research, the embryo is then dipped in formaldehyde (the same stuff in cigarette smoke, and the sme stuff that the frog are submerged in before you dissect them. and then destroyed.
At least signing off on the stem cell research, would greatly help advancements in medical technology.
So whether or not the woman signs off on it, the embyo, or fetus, will be destroyed.
As for creating organs, they have even said in that article, that the stem cells have regenerative properties, and are able to create new organs from it..
Your statement about organ donation however, is incorrect, because you CAN authorize the donation of your organs..
Ever hear of an Organ Donor Card?
They ask you if you want to donate your organs, whenever you apply for a driver's license.
And on your license, it shows whether or not you are a donor.
So, just like the mother would have to sign a release authorizing the use of her aborted embryo's cells in stem cell research, a person applying for a drivers license, would have to sign a document authorizing organ donation..
In both instances, the person would have to sign away on something that could save the lives of another person, or persons.
In that respect, Organ Donation is synonymous with Stem Cell Research.

hmm, I don't get what the big deal with this is, I mean the embryo never existed as a person and therefore they don't have the rights of a human, and even if they did, they were aborted and so they would be classed as a dead human.

Precisely my point.
I don't really see how someone can be "pro-life" and not agree with this research.. :ermm:

Working to increase the effectiveness of transplants
The focus of Dr. Ann Woolfrey's research is to improve the effectiveness of bone-marrow and stem-cell transplants, particularly for patients with noncancerous (nonmalignant) disorders, such as aplastic anemia, sickle-cell anemia, hemophilia and thalassemia. |

with stem cell research it may be possible to cure many of the known diseases today, so you can bet if for what ever reason a woman needs an abortion she should really consider giving the embryo to science, as that one embryo may help so many people live disease free.

I'm not big on fields of science I think man was not meant to deal with.

Stem Cell Research is okay in my book. It's just like B.A. said. If the mother doesn't want the kid in the first place at least get some use out of it. That's like what my friend Tom did. He got a new recliner and instead of just throwing the old recliner out, he strapped a jogging stroller to it and made it a reclinermobile. He threw it out afterwards but still, he got some use out of it. The fetuses are dead anyway so just do the research and end it already.

With a fetus, the cells are already assigned. For the stem cells to be usable, you'd have to remove the embryo before it becomes a fetus.
