Title: Thanksgiving..
Black Angel - November 21, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
Mr. Nest and I are going to my uncle's house, and then we are going home..
I might cook something before I leave though.. but if I don't shake this cold by wednesday, then it just isn't going to happen..
What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
Clyra - November 21, 2006 01:25 AM (GMT)
I'm spending Thanksgiving with my family and Aeon is spending it with a friend.
Black Angel - November 21, 2006 01:43 AM (GMT)
I miss cooking.. I made one big meal, and my mom couldn't stop talking about it..
come to think of it.. i have cooked 2 holidays.. the first one was thanksgiving.. i was 18, and my mother was sick with food posoning.. (she had bad fish in Venezuela)
and the second, was for 24 people for christmas 4 years ago....
It was a the biggest meal i had ever cooked..
I was up for 24 hours straight.. but Mr.Nest helped me out..
i made 1 bird (i hate making birds)
4 cakes
2 big aluminum trays of yams
60 cornbread muffins
30 biscuits
2 huge salads
5 trays baked ziti
3 trays of stuffing (did i make it from scratch? heck no.. stove top was my best friend that year lol)
3 loaves of garlic bread
3 gallons of kool aid
my mom brought potato salad, collard greens, mac and cheese, my stepdads arroz con gandules, ham cranberry sauce, soda, beer, and more kool aid.
when my mom got there she was like "alisha here are your gifts, try this on, now get out of the kitchen" lol it was almost as if she felt that i was overwhelmed and was coming to my rescue but all in all, everyone except Mr. Nest, BDX, mom, stepdad, and great-grandmother was surprised that i pulled off a dinner that big by myself. my mom was laid back about it when she told me good job, but i found out when we went to virginia the summer after that she told everybody that i cooked a big dinner that christmas.. :)

ThunWind Hog - November 21, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
I have no plans for Thanksgiving, because Thanksgiving is over.
FYI: I live in Canada.
Black Angel - November 21, 2006 02:11 AM (GMT)
oh yeah that's right happy belated thanksgiving..
what day was that do you remember?
VirusZero - November 21, 2006 02:39 AM (GMT)
I live in Canada too, but that ain't gonna stop me from having a second thanksgiving. I'm pretty sure that my grandmother is making a turkey this weekend cause I asked for it 2 weeks ago...
and if she doesn't make it then I intend to eat a whole pizza by myself. thats my thanksgiving. I might hop into my father's jeep and go see a few friends (but it's all depends what they're up to.)
blazermax - November 21, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
so in canada everything happen earlyier then in america. cool
Black Angel - November 21, 2006 03:19 AM (GMT)
their thanksgiving is earlier because it is canadan.. (though im not sure why..)

Wityh my family...probably....
Snowflame - November 22, 2006 03:22 PM (GMT)
Isn't thanksgiving an American holiday?
VirusZero - November 22, 2006 04:57 PM (GMT)
I know why we celebrate it earlier than America does... (i took some time and looked it up) and it's because:
1- our history is just a bit different (our thanksgiving thought to have originated in 1578 in newfoundland) while the american's thanksgiving is thought to originate in 1619 and in 1621 there were what people believe is the pilgrim's thanksgiving but that was just a harvest festival, the thanksgiving for the ilgrims didn't start until 1623. (almost 45 years after Canada had our first...)
2- we like to eat and so any excuse we can use to have a huge feast is great for us, and thus we can enjoy both ;D

Yeah well...
I hate christmas stories but love christmas... you know why?
Cause the romans had a holiday in the winter in December since they though the winter was dull, boring... And so they would sing songs and exchanges presents...
So i think christmas a great kobundall
But then i love it for presents, stockings, chocolate, turkey (BREAD SAUCE!) and getting the weeks around it off :B):

Mr. Nest had told me about Turducken.. and you know, I always thought that that concept was gross.. and yet I looked at some images..
Jeez.. at this rate I am starting to think that they'd eat anything down south. eww

Black Angel - November 22, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
Jeez it gets worse.. see when I found out that they put stuffing in the layers between I was less grossed out by it..
but after reading this, I can say that the turducken looks even less gross.. because it is only 3 birds..
| QUOTE (wikipedia) |
| The largest recorded nested bird roast is 17 birds, attributed to a royal feast in France in the 19th Century: a bustergophechideckneaealckideverwingailusharkolanine - bustard stuffed with a turkey, a goose, a pheasant, a chicken, a duck, a guinea fowl, a teal, a woodcock, a partridge, a plover, a lapwing, a quail, a thrush, a lark, an ortolan and a passerine. Since passerine is a generic term, it is not known exactly what kind of bird was used as the smallest in the actual roast, although a pied flycatcher has been suggested. The recipe notes that the final bird is small enough that it can be stuffed with a single olive; it also suggests that, unlike modern multi-bird roasts, there was no stuffing or other packing placed in between the birds. |
Mystic Mage - November 22, 2006 07:07 PM (GMT)

Black Angel - November 22, 2006 07:13 PM (GMT)

I could be worse. The turducken could've been some sort of weird love child between the three birds.
