VirusZero - March 1, 2005 05:33 PM (GMT)
like what kinda info?
just so you know the mouse effect is awesome, and so is the background effect.
the music you used i've heard before, but what are the songs called? specifically the chit-chat's theme.
A.J. The Echidna - March 1, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
It's great. It needs a ton of work though and someone who is new at something is a newb not a n00b.
kaiser302 - March 3, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
the info you need for help and so far i am sort of doing good on it i think
A.J. The Echidna - March 13, 2005 03:16 AM (GMT)
You should add videogame news on it.
Black Angel - March 20, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
that is a good idea aj, btw kaiser the site is very cool, but be careful with the bandwidth ok?
here are 12 VERY IMPORTANT tips:
1. host your images on an IMAGE Host. <= a good one is imagehost.biz they give you 350mb space, 5000mbs (5 gigs) bandwidth, and other stuff FREE. (but there are also many others.) When you upload your images on to an image hosting server, they give you your own links to your files so that YOU can use them as a host for your pages. Image Hosts give you a lot of security options such as disabling hotlinks, and letting you create your ownwater mark to protect your images from theft. (see tip #10)
2. Do not use .bmp images. they are huge and they take forever to load. instead use .jpg/.jpeg, .png, .gif since they are smaller and are better quality pics than .bmp.
3. same applies for flash (if you plan on having it)
4. a good webspace host is
www.freewebtown.com and you can host your site AD FREE.
*Pros:
a) they give you a gig (1,000mb) of space for free.
b) you get a gig of bandwidth but you can always purchase more at $2 (u.s.)/per gig (which is good since i have seen places where they offer you 500mb of space, and a gig of bandwidth for like $15 a month.)
c) the $2 is a one-time payment. but you can always side-step this since...
d) you can have as many accounts as you want.
e) you can upload any file type you want (but create a separate account for each different file type because if you have everything on the same account you will got thru your bandwith faster than you think. in other words 1 for flash, 1 for midi etc)
f) the max upload size for a file is 40mb.
g) their templates suck, (<= you dont have to use them) but inside your file manager, you can click the edit button next to your "index.html" file and edit the code to your liking; or you can just paste the code from your homepages..
h) NO ADVERTISEMENTS!!!
Cons:
a) sometimes there server is down but that happens infrequently and that happens everywhere (even here)
b) sometimes you'll have to re-login to your account if you click a link
c) if you go over your bandwidth they shut you down and you have to purchase extra bandwidth..
4. if you are gonna add music, use midi. they are small, and copy-right free. so you can use them on your site without the worry of a copyright infringment because they are legal. mp3/wav are too big and will take too long to load. and will take up a lot of bandwidth.
5. too less is boring. (but that doesnt apply to you)
6. less is more (neither does this really). (don't have too many images on the page) if the page takes more than 30 seconds to load its images, there may be too many. <= this is, of course, excluding the connection speed factor, which brings me to my next tip..
7. don't assume that everyone is on broadband. some are still using 14.4k modems, and not every is patient enough to wait for the page to load. so it is important that your pages load in an appropiate amount of time.
8. a page size is 800(w) x 600(l) (pixels) <= not every1 has a monitor that can handle a 1024 x 768 screen resolution, and that is a nother factor that can slow the page loading time.
9. file size = amount of bandwidth used when the page loads that file.
10. Always disable hot-linking. so that the occasional @$$h013 doesnt try to steal your images, use up your bandwidth, etc.. believe me, it happens more often than you think.
11. bandwidth is used when ever some one visits your page, refreshs your page, clicks a link. so be careful.
12. links (to your other pages located elsewhere) are your friends because they don't use much/if any bandwidth.
sorry about the soliloquy kaiser, but these tips are the best ways to not get your site frozen permanently on freewebs. (*sigh* if only bdx had listened...)
once again, very nice site and good luck. :B):
VirusZero - March 20, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)
wow, thats alot of tips, but if your not gonna be hosting alot of stuff then you could put it all on one, like i plan to put a couple flash movies, a few images and maybe a game after i finish making them all. so for me i could just use one account and be fine?
Black Angel - March 20, 2005 10:08 PM (GMT)
bdx had a good freewebs site but it was shut down very quickly, after it was first launched and so i dont want that to happen kaiser i am hosting 2 of them and they are still up and running. :B):
MajinTobias - March 21, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
freewebs is EVIL. That's all I gotta say.
kaiser302 - March 21, 2005 06:28 AM (GMT)
thanks for all the stuff that you guys are talking about i am going to ask my cousin how to get the chat site working on the free webs
Black Angel - March 21, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
hey this is an edit to my first post
you remember when i said that the only way for you to use HTML code was for the site add-ons? well as it turns out i was inside my file manger on my www.freewebtown.com account, and i noticed a box next my "index.html" file that read "edit" so i clicked on it and lo, and behold... i was able to edit the HTML file. this couldnt have happened to me at a better time because i had just copied the HTML source code from my yahoo homepage to my clipboard, and i pasted it into the freewebtown's HTML editor and ended up making it look exactly the same as my Yahoo page.
lets see if you can tell the difference between all 3 ok?
Yahoo!FreewebsWWW.Freewebtown.comisn't that cool? just use yahoo page builder to customize the layout of your page(s) and use a different browser to get the Html source code (i used opera 7.50), copy it to your clip board and then paste it to the freewebtown's html editor. thats it. just that simple... :B):

no... because you will easily use up bandwidth.. especially if you are hosting flash.. i posted like 9 links in the "where it all got started" thread and if i had hosted them all on 1 account, the account would have been suspended by the end of the month... if you are only using it for one file type than you would be better off having 2 or 3 accounts just to be on the safe side. i hosted all of the flash games on one account because each of them is less than 300 k.. however, as i add games i will be hosting them on a separate account to spread the work load and ultimately keep my sites up and running. do you understand where i'm coming from? remember, that the size of the file = the amount of bandwidth used to load that file (if it's 2mbs than it will use 2mbs of bandwith) so, if you up'd a flash file that is like 4mbs in size, it would take 250 visitors to click the link to throw your account into suspension. bdx's movies are all over 4mbs (practically pushing 5mbs) so it would take an even less amount of visitors to the link to freeze his account. (which is exactly what happened on freewebs.) that is assumably, if each visitor only clicked on the link once and never visited it again.. but since that rarely happens, it would take a substantially less amount of visitors to suspend his account. i know this was long but i hoped it helped..:B):
VirusZero - March 22, 2005 12:38 AM (GMT)
oh i see what you mean, and the movie i would be hosting would be about 7-8 megs... so that would realyl chew up the bandwidth, the bandwidth gets reset at the beginning of the month right?
(btw im still new at hosting.)
Black Angel - March 22, 2005 12:44 AM (GMT)
you got it.. but i have a bad feeling that bdx is gonna think that im tryin to take over his site...(im not) and delete all the games and stuff out of spite.. :(
Black Angel - March 22, 2005 12:50 AM (GMT)
im not sure if they reset it but i wouldnt chance it... they are not like yahoo where if you go over they shut you down for like an hour and then your good again....they just might freeze your account until you pay them to reactivate it..
VirusZero - March 22, 2005 01:12 AM (GMT)
so if at the end of the month if you have only a little left you start the next moth with only what you had left?
but with yahoo you get less room dont you?
but i dont think he'd delete all your work i mean either way if it helps the forum it is good right and i dont think he'd do anything that would mess it up. (atleast i think he wouldnt)
Black Angel - March 22, 2005 01:29 AM (GMT)
i hope your right... usually bdx and i are on the same page and its tesm we have to worry about.. but this time tesm is on the same page i am... anywho.. come to think of it they do reset it... every month so you start off each month with a gig of bandwidth... because i have used like 815kb of bandwidth out of like 1000mbs (which is like < 1%) yahoo only offers you 15mbs of webspace... that is, if you upgrade to their paid service you get (brace yourself...) a whoping 25mbs!!!! but i think that their professional service gives you a lot more but you had better br prepared to take a big hit on your wallet... i did my homework on this one.. :) <= check me out im all colorful and stuff...
MajinTobias - March 22, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
Wow, Yahoo sounds pretty good.
Black Angel - March 22, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
i hope you were being sarcastic... cuz i was talking about freewebtown.com with the 1000mbs of space and bandwith... :)
VirusZero - March 23, 2005 02:30 AM (GMT)
yahoo sucks, i tried it and, no good, its ok for site design but hostign no way, it sucks.
MajinTobias - March 23, 2005 02:39 AM (GMT)
okay well anyways I don't plan on opening up my own site or anything no use for it as of now. I just have a xanga, if that counts for a site.

hey at least they have a good designing program (page builder) so at least you could design your page with them, and just copy the index.html (you can open & edit it in notepad) and paste the info into the editor of the place you plan on hosting right? :)
VirusZero - March 25, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
maybe but as it looks now frewebtowns is as good as well so its not like it really matters, i could always use dreamweaver as well.
MajinTobias - March 26, 2005 03:15 AM (GMT)
Sometimes I think I don't wanna bother with hosting sites and stuff.
Black Angel - March 27, 2005 07:24 AM (GMT)
it can be fun, especially once you found your self a solid webhost for your stuff.. i had freewebtown for a while now, but i didnt discover their abilities until recently sine i was turned off by their desktop because it had a lot of stuff on it.. but then i realized that that was my desktop and not what would be seen once the site was published... i do it for hobby and now i am doing a few for the family business, and one for my friend. :)
VirusZero - March 27, 2005 11:55 PM (GMT)
this may be a beginner question but i cant seem to get it to let me show my .swf file, am i doign something wrong? (i tried the multimedia gallery and tried just uploading it but i couldnt figure out how to set it on a page.)
Black Angel - March 28, 2005 04:58 PM (GMT)
where did you upload it to? and where are you trying to show it? :) :)
A.J. The Echidna - March 28, 2005 06:46 PM (GMT)
VirusZero - March 28, 2005 08:08 PM (GMT)
i uploaded it to the main file location. im trying to show it on a page so i can link it here and show everyone.
Black Angel - March 28, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
oh.. i am saying where did you go yahoo? freewebs? tripod? who? :)
A.J. The Echidna - March 30, 2005 12:59 AM (GMT)
Still don't know what you're talking about.
VirusZero - March 30, 2005 01:28 AM (GMT)
oh i went freewebtown but i got the problem fixed for now so im ok.
A.J. The Echidna - March 30, 2005 01:30 AM (GMT)
That good. Does that mean you guys are going to stop talking all weird now?
VirusZero - March 30, 2005 01:49 AM (GMT)
maybe it all depends on wether there is anymore html stuff left to cover.
A.J. The Echidna - March 30, 2005 02:04 AM (GMT)
Oh man! :D Hopefully you won't have anymore problems.
Black Angel - March 30, 2005 07:29 PM (GMT)
there will always be more left to cover, however i myself am not that far along in html but if you have any questions, ill try to answer them and if i cant, then ill show you where you can get answers. :)
A.J. The Echidna - March 30, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
Aww man! Stinking html codes. Can never understand them.
