Then why do you do it?

Dictator - February 9, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
Because he thought he'd enjoy it probably and at this time in the year it's probably too late to ask his counseler for a class switch.

Snowflame - February 9, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
Well, for me Germen is too complicated to understand and the way they speak.

wait... what!? You can make you don't have german!!!??? well personally, I have no choice. It's being taught in all the classes and other schools just have another extra language (french, spanish). I started learning german since the age of 10 and I understand it as much as I understood english after 2 years of learning (which i started learning at the age of 8)

Topic split from the Snow day discussion

Starting in grade 3 or 4 we had to take french ( the bilingualism of canada and all that) and we had to take it all the way up to and including grade 9. Though after that it isn't mandatory though we can still take it.

But when I started last year at university I took a spanish class (I would have continued it this year but a few of the courses I needed to take had to come first so I couldn't fit it into my schedule.) I'd like to continue it next year but before I can I have to ensure it won't conflict with other classes I need to take (and I'll have to brush up on my spanish so I won't get in class and be completely lost ).

And I'd still like to learn Japanese but no one at my university teaches it.

Sephiroth - February 9, 2007 09:23 PM (GMT)
English, Spanish and François

Dictator - February 9, 2007 09:24 PM (GMT)
Here we're only required to know English and be able to speak it. However, to get into a good college you're required 3 or 2 years of foreign laguage. I wanted to take German, but they don't teach it at the highschool here.

Yeah, I've been taking Spanish since third grade. That means I've been taking it for....seven years now.

I know spanish pretty well. I can speak it amazingly well too, only problem is...I can't really read it or write it that well...So I've been taking it ever since I've been offered it. Although sometime along the road I'd like to learn Japanese on my own freetime. I'd be really glad to learn it, but I hear it's really hard to learn unless you have the patience and time.

I am learning Visual C++.. but then again, that is a programming language..

As for actual language, I speak spanish fluently.. (just a bit rusty as I havent spoken it in so long..) and I'd like to learn Japanese.

I'll start taking Japanese classes as soon as they offer them to me, but for now...I'm going to be learing Spanish until I get an A everytime.

Spanish, English, and Japanese.

Dictator - February 14, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
I did study some Japanese. I understand the prnounciations and stuff but I don't know a lot of the words and frases. So far the words I know are:

Hai - Yes

Hayashi - Forest

Okami - Wolf

iiya(Not sure on the exact spelling but I know the pronounciation) - No

Hayabusa - Falcon

Konichiwa

Kitsune - Fox

I know what the proper way to address names and stuff is, such as kun, sensei, stuff like that.

That's about as much of Japanese as I know. I can only speak english but I know some things for other languages. I picked some spanish words up from some of my friends who had spanish families.

Chaotic Newbie - March 15, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
I know two words that are used in anime:

Ichigo- Strawberries
Gohan- rice (cooked) Japanese style
