Title: Subbed VS Dubbed

VirusZero - February 28, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
Which is better in your opinion? and why?
I'll post my views later...

While dubs are great for people who can't keep up with subtitles, it is irritating to hear certain characters when their voice actors are terrible. I'll stick with subtitles thank you.

subbed

English dubs suck most of the time

VirusZero - March 1, 2007 01:03 AM (GMT)
I prefer subbed mainly because the english versions get so butchered they cut scenes and stuff out (like in the case of full metal alchemist, they cut out so many scenes of the japanese version that the english version actually lost and episode... and that pisses me off, because I downloaded that series in english)

but the only reason I kind of prefer the dubbed is because then I can understand what they are saying and I don't have to read along at the bottom. (But the removal of scenes really ticks me off enough to not care bout the subtitles )

I go with subb, same as all of you guys...the actors. But what VirusZero said is the same as my case.I sometimes want to see them in dubbed because I feel more comfortable understanding it.

I have an anime channel called ANIMAX on Direct TV.......the anime shows are dubb......IN SPANISH........I never watch that channel no matter how much a love anime........its horrible....*sniff*.And the funny thing is that im from Puerto Rico so my main language is spanish so I do understand them...but its way too horrible. They try to fit in the spanish sentences with the movement of the characters mouth, and if the character stops moving its mouth for a second, the actor stops talking and continues were they left off a couple of seconds ago......its weird and horrible.NEVER watch anime in spanish....your ears are going to start bleeding.

saphirekitty - March 1, 2007 04:07 AM (GMT)
Subb 4 mii, when i watch anime inn english(like naruto) the voice actors suck*like naruto's voice* and the script is sometimes off. I just watch the japanese vsm subbed and call it a day. :-_-: :ermm:

Ah...Um...Oh...Dang! I can't choose! Yes the dubs suck on many animes, and sometimes they do such an amazing job you can't really complain...The subs are great all around, even if I do need to read. I still learn at least a little bit of jap while watching the dubs, and I can even stand the voices because they don't suck. For example...I've never seen Pani Poni Dash in jap. but from what I can tell. The english dubbing is amazing! Rebecca is voiced amazingly well to the point of perfection! Her voice actress is the voice of Tessa from the Full Metal Panic series. Okay...Now an example of a bad dubbing we all know and hate. Naruto. Yes it sucks...Sucks so much, I hit my head against the wall everytime I hear "BELIEVE IT!!" (Speaking of which...Nvm...You'll see...) Now another example I would love to point out..."Rumbling Hearts" Okay...So the dubbing wasn't that bad...But I still hate it...Oh and just incase some of you were wondering. It's a name change the original name was "Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien" aka "The Eternity You Desire." I wasn't too happy with the dubbing, and I loved this anime series to death when I watched the sub. So in my case...Dub is okay, and sometimes even awasome from time to time...But sub can totally kick the dubbing's ass in many ways.

SUBBED

With the dubbed version you get too many edits, subbeds the way to go

Link - March 8, 2007 04:07 AM (GMT)
True that in some dubs you get too many edits, but there are some companies that stay true to the orignal dubbing. So that's why not all dubbed versions are bad...Just mostly all of them...

VirusZero - March 8, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
ok so we all know that the subbed versions are of the opinion that they are better, but now if the official makers of the anime/show offered it in <base language> with subs would you rather get it or would you rather have the work fan subbed?
(removing the cost factor, this is a hypothetical situation in which they are both free, as fi you watch them on tv. like replace the dubbed bleach airing on what ever station it's on, with the official subbed version on the same network)

Link - March 8, 2007 04:17 AM (GMT)
Ah! Very good question. Thanks to the magic of cable here in L.A. I have a channel that gives both the subbed, and dubbed version of the same anime on tv. Personally I record both of them and compare them. Truth be told. There are a lot of edits in the dubbing rather then the subbing. In many ways I actually would enjoy watching the subbed versions on tv, (even though I already do for one anime) so the answer would be yes. I would rather watch the subbed version of an anime on TV rather then the dubbed version. Offically subbed is better, and funsubbed is good too. They both have their pros and cons...So I can't really say for sure which one I would enjoy more.

Mavander - March 8, 2007 03:37 PM (GMT)
Subbed. Like someone sayed up there, I can learn japanese by hearing characters. Also, when I read subs, I get into some weird trance and I hear actors saying actually in english, not japanese.

Sephiroth - March 8, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
Dubed because here in Portugal we have a very funny way to dub things...even tough if it's a serious anime ;D

VirusZero - March 8, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
but if you had the choice would you want the official company to provide subs (minimal scene editing, only what is absolutely required, and adding of subs) as well as dubs (as they are now) so you could choose which you watched? or would you still prefer fansubs (where no editing of the scenes happens, only the subs are added.)

Sephiroth - March 8, 2007 10:01 PM (GMT)
I would go for the first option then...

Black Angel - March 8, 2007 11:50 PM (GMT)
I prefer subbed.. dubbed is nice, but they have a tendency to censor you..

Not only that, I watch Ranma 1/2, both dubbed and subbed, and I gotta tell you. it is highly disturbing, hearing someone who is supposed to be from china, with a New Jersey accent..

I watch Sailor moon dubbed, and I just wanted to throw my skull through the TV..

Link - March 9, 2007 04:33 AM (GMT)
lol Minimal censership is good...But if it's for TV, and I get to watch subbed the whole day of my life. Then I'd have to go with the offical companies giving me the subbed versions on TV.

saphirekitty - March 9, 2007 07:13 AM (GMT)
i saw all of sailor moon dubbed, never seen any subbed, i should go check it out >.>

Black Angel - March 9, 2007 07:53 AM (GMT)
SK, I am telling you now, that it is better in Japanese..

Did you see the original version, dubbed in english, or the american version?

the reason i ask is because there are differences in the storylines..

saphirekitty - March 9, 2007 08:37 AM (GMT)
oooh, the american, but i find the japanese and american to be the same, excepet the japanese voice for sailormoon is more fitting. T_T

Black Angel - March 9, 2007 09:56 AM (GMT)
Trust me, the Japanese version of Sailor Moon is very different from the U.S. version..

1. not all 200 episodes were aired in the U.S.

2. They made Sailor Neptune and Uranus "cousins"

eh.. there's more here..

BlackCloudX - March 9, 2007 12:19 PM (GMT)
BA what about raw?

(non-subbed non dubbed)

Wow, very good question indeed. I think if it was possible to choose from both i would still go with subs just because of those one or two scenes they take out. But if there was anyway they could completely dub a series without editiing ANYTHING i would go for that cuz u can pay attention to the actions sequences a lil more.

Raw anime is little too much, I like to know as much about whats goin on as i can

VirusZero - March 9, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
I actually prefer fansubs, because
1- since they aren't in it for profit, they cut all the advertising out (that's my beef with tv channels, I HATE advertising, and that's how they make it, by subjecting us to advertising.)
2- you can download it to your pc and have access to it anytime, rather than being forced to watch it at one specific time. (thus if you have to go somewhere at that time, you'd miss it on tv.)
3- fan sub quality is just as good as professional
4- often times, fansubers can bring us more animes that normally we wouldn't see because tv companies are afraid that the local market wouldn't like that show so they don't bother to ty bringing it over.
EX - Chrno Crusade- I've never seen it on tv, never seen it listed, but because of some loyal fansubbers, I could see that series.

Good points VZ...I've changed my mind...Funsub it is.

BlackDevilX - March 12, 2007 06:33 AM (GMT)
Hard choice...yes they curse in the subbed ones and its so much better btu some dubs or better then dubbs...such as.....Inuyasha.

Link - March 13, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
True. Some dubs end up being better then the subs. Espically some of the more underrated animes. Pani Poni dash is one of them. I really like the dub, and it's pretty funny too.

SethWhiteFox - August 16, 2007 07:34 AM (GMT)
Its different per anime. I DEFANTLY like the dubed Ruromni Kenshin better then the subbed one. His voice sounded like a women.... His voice matches his voice in the english dub, that it does.

Dictator - August 17, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)
Oi.

Anywaes... Fan subs aren't bad. I was watching the Naruto Hurricane Chronicles when those were on youtube, and those are fan subbed, they're pretty good too...

blazing_heartnix - August 18, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
my gods dark sol you're puertorrican too, that makes two boricuas in the forum!!!
(ok that was totally of topic my bad) i'd say suded is nice when it's in jappanesse and u don't understand a thing, but when dubbed in spanish is most of the time horrible...except for Zenki and rouroni kenshin ^_^
