Title: Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess

VirusZero - May 4, 2007 02:18 AM (GMT)
Released before christmas on the Wii and the gamecube ( A somewhat controversial decision that divided nintendo's fans into those with the new console and those without. But let's ignore that and focus instead on the game.)

Diving into the game at full steam...
We are greeted with the usual start up stuff, and then the intro screen of Link in various places. Pressing start greets us with our traditional load/start new game screen and the usual music, After set up we press start. Then it's onward to a new adventure.

Taking control of Link (on the gamecube version anyway) is as good as the controls from the earlier installments of LOZ ( And the game itself seems to draw alot from earlier games as well... more on that later.)

Link runs, chops and generally hands evil one serious beating, all without getting a single piece of dirt on him. But aside from that Link seems to pretty much a pushover to everybody, he does everything asked and is subjected to some of the most infuriating characters (seriously, I enjoyed Zant's banter more than the kids... Atleast Zant was evil.) But aside from the talking the real meat of the game is the sword swinging, bomb blasting, Arrow launching, one man army guy with no voice. (Which is slightly bothersome, everyone has grunt's and groans and the indiviual noises when you talk to them, but no voices... Maybe it's just I've grown accustomed to having a voice for everyone? but then again why not? it can make a story feel so much more involving when you have the right voice actor bringing the speaking character to life.) And speaking of life, hearts return, and now it takes 5 pieces to make a full heart (just means more searching to get them... )

As far as the money goes though, I found that for most of the time I ended up with the limit so fast and nothing I really needed to spend it on... (All the items are so plentiful in the areas that you never really need to worry bout running out. And should you run out, just switch tactics and continue until you have enough to resume. )

Speaking of items, there are loads in the game, returning favourites such as the hookshot, hero bow and the boomerang, but also some new comers, such as the spinner (a top you can use to ride), a giant mace you can swing around, and my personal favourites the bomb-arrow fusion (destruction with some range. Much akin to a medievil grenade launcher.)
But speaking of old and new, new is the ability to become a wolf. (I won't say how this happens but rest assured it's not as bad as it sounds... Sure you can't use any of human link's moves or weapons, but you get some unique abilities as a wolf to replace them... or atleast lessen the hurt.)

The graphics of the game are pretty good though one small thing I noticed was some areas of slowdowns... (Hitting multiple enemies or entering hyrule's center area always slow the game down.) But every other area looks and works well, From the temples to the vast open fields to the rocky mountain and lakes Hyrule has never looked better.

The music is some familiar tunes as well as some new ones. (Temple of time theme returns.) Also the ocarina has been removed this time forcing you to use special grass patches to call your horse/hawk. (Though you do get a horse call late in the game...) Since you can't use the ocarina, your forced to use wolf link's howl as the ocarina.

Overall, play this game, why? because
1- if your a platformer fan you'll like it
2- if your an action fan, you'll like it
3- if your a LOZ fan, you'll like it
4- because it's an awesome game

So my rating of this game is (9/10) - Excellent

Yeah, it defantly is a very good game i beat it already too!...but it think that my favorite LOZ game ever is the Majora's Mask one...for some reason i love this game, not only because it introduces a new and mistirious character called fierce deity or oni link, but because this game goes almost against everything that usual loz games stand for ;D

I hated majora's mask... I hate being timed (even with the ability to slow down time. I still hate knowing that there is a timer there... I find it an immense distraction from the otherwise fun of the game. )

Thankfully Twilight Princess doesn't have that problem. Sure there are a few puzzles which rely on timing, but thats not bad.

Got to agree with you on that...the puzzle i found that were the hardest ones was the ones where you had to guide the two giant stone guardians in order to get the master sdword...man i spent days trying to put them in the right place...
