Black Angel - May 7, 2007 11:32 PM (GMT)
They need their phones to call their parents in case the nanny, or chauffeur is late in picking them up from school..
Don't you realize that every 7 year old needs a cell phone? [/sarcasm]

Even though I agree with you about the cell phones, it isn't right to make fun of kids for being different.. that is how school shootings get started.. because they become the victim to everyone else for being different, and they feel like they have no where to go for help, and end up taking matters into their own hands.. <= which is either suicide, homicide, or a shooting..
You never know the affect it has on a person until it is too late.
But that aside, a first grader has no business with a cell phone.. I don't care how rich they are.
You mentioned that things were a lot different when you were a kid, well things were very different when I was a kid..
Back then, people looked out for each other.. you know the saying, "it takes a village to raise a child." well back then, and in the generations before that, it proved to be true..
If you did something bad in the street, and someone who knew your parents saw you, you got your ass whooped by them, and then when they told your parents, you got your ass whooped again by your parents..
Back then, your neighbors cared for you as if you were one of their children..
and you had to respect them as if you respected your parents..
The world was a much better place then.

ha ha well you put up a very good point but i dont make fun of fat 7 year olds in thier faces you would have to be in school with them and im not in 1 st grade lol i tend to just make fun of them from afar like out the window of the bus or some thing
Black Angel - May 8, 2007 01:58 AM (GMT)
i get what you are saying, and i am not saying that you are in 1st grade lol..
but the idea of a 1st grader, or a kindergartener for that matter, walking around with a cell phone isn't exactly an alien concept either.
Striker Nexus - May 8, 2007 02:07 AM (GMT)
All that proves is that the parents are spoiling their child.
OCAZ - May 11, 2007 04:17 PM (GMT)
I concur, there are very few reasons why a 6 year old needs a cell phone
Striker Nexus - May 13, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
Like? Don't try pulling " He can call the ambulance if someone was injured." out of your rear, 'cause I could always tell the teacher and I KNOW FOR A FACT that they have a cell phone.
Black Angel - May 13, 2007 11:30 PM (GMT)
He was saying that he agrees, and that there really isn't a reason (if any) for a child that age to be walking around with a cell phone.
VirusZero - May 14, 2007 12:08 AM (GMT)
Hmm 6 is a little young to have a cell phone (especially a high end one.) because when your 6 you really don't have as much of an idea of the cost of things... And so if it goes missing your not as worried... And with a missing cellphone charges can get racked up absurdly fast. (Just call somewhere on the other side of the world...)
But at 6 I highly doubt every kid knows how to use all the features right away... So calling and texting maybe but using the msn/yahoo/aim features... maybe not.
Striker Nexus - May 14, 2007 02:46 AM (GMT)
They might lock themselves out of their phone, and not be able to unlock it.
Black Angel - June 7, 2007 06:50 PM (GMT)
In which case, that is the parent's problem seeing as how they were the ones stupid enough to give a kid that young their own cell phone.

I wouldn't advice young children to keep cell phones with themselves. As I heard they are spreading electromagnetic waves which could make some damage in their growing bodies. Especially in their gender related organs sine phones are usually being kept in pockets :-_-: I met a woman who didn't keep a cell phone with herself when she was pregnant.
VirusZero - June 7, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
Well... I don't think that's true. There are alot of misconceptions about cellphones. (From that they can blow up your car and the whole station if you use it while filling your car's gas tank to using a cell phone at a fireworks site can detonate the fireworks.) Neither of those are true by the way. And cell phones would not be sold if they caused harmful damage to the body, all radio reception and transmission is well within acceptable levels. And besides whether we like it or not we're constantly bombarded with radio waves anyway. From radio stations and cellphone towers that transmit them thousands of times more powerful than a simple cell phone. And there are no disconcernable heath impacts thus far.

Well, they proved in Brainiac that it is not possible, however I'm still not sure about the electromagnetism.
VirusZero - June 8, 2007 01:03 AM (GMT)
Cellphones operate with fairly low levels of electromagnetic waves. as I said it's low enough not to cause any harm, and besides as I said we're bombarded with radio waves anyway (which are just a form of electormagnetic waves ) and it hasn't caused any problems. If it were going to cause a problem for mothers we would have seen it by now. (Besides the female body is VERY tough, and can handle many things, so a small electromagnetic wave isn't going to pose a problem. And as far as the baby goes, the mother's body would protect the unborn baby.)

I hear you on that one, though, there has to be some truth to it, because I have seen gas stations that had signs telling drivers not to use their cellphones at a gas station.. though, I have also heard that the risk of an explosion is a lot greater with static electricity, than it is with cell phone use.
but there must be some risk, or something must have happened similar to that, if they had put up signs warning of it..
for example, they put warnings on candy bars informing everyone that the candy is manufactured in a factory that handles nuts. this way those with nut allergies can avoid it.. <= they did this after someone died from eating a candy bar, that happened to have a small trace of peanut in it, and the family sued the candy company and won.. I believe that it was a Hershey bar that the person ate..
a woman sued mcdonald's after burning herself on hot coffee.. after she won the lawsuit, they put a warning on the cup informing that the coffee was hot..
Point is, they don't issue warnings unless there is a risk of said outcome, or it has happened and the result was a lawsuit.. however as I saw on bullshit.. or it may have been myth busters, that it is unlikely..

Using a cellphone at gas pumps will not ignite the gas. The only possible way is if someone was dumb enough to either:
pour gas all over the ground, take a wire and drop it in the gas, then disconnect the cellphone battery and touch it to the wire. That may do it.
OR
Douse everything in gas and throw their cellphone at it until it cracked and released the acid or sparked on impact to ignite the gas.
Simply using a cell phone wouldn't do it, and how confident am I in this info?
Well here's how confident I am, The Boss of the fireworks company I work for (who trained me) told us (The group he was training) that the eletrical ignition system of the fireworks are the most tempermental part of it, even more so than gas (As a single rough brush of the electric igniter along the fuse can ignite the igniter/fuse, which is many times more sensitive than gas.) And if using a cell phone near that won't set it off, then I am not worried about using it at a gas pump. (Just so you know, with an averge lithium-ion cell phone battery you can fire a small to medium sized show with no substantial drain on the battery. Which just goes to show just how sensitive the electric ignition system is.)

Man that kinda stuff makes me mad, seeing little kids with cell phones, its just something to show off to other little kids. I didn't get a cell phone till i was in eigth grade, and my little sister keeps beggin my my to buy her one since she was in second grade, its so annoying (like she could even use one). Well i dont have a cell phone any more and im doing just fine, and i see these little girls that go to my church with them. The only thing little kids with cell phones is gonna cause is trouble, cause the kids with the cell phones are gonna think that their cooler than the kids without. When i was young, all we worryed about was playing basketball, and who liked who, all this electronic stuff wasn't even an issue, as a matter of fact we didn't even have those signs that said "No cell phones during school hours" Now there all over my elementry school.
