Title: My recent lack of activity

VirusZero - July 3, 2007 02:17 AM (GMT)
As of recently some of you may have noticed that I have been virtually inactive for almost 3 weeks... Well there is a good reason for that (Several actually, but I digress.)

Anyway Here's why I haven't been online:

It all started early june when I took this pyrotech course, shortly thereafter I was hired (not in the same field. I was hired by another company completely unrelated to the course.) And from there I started working a midnight shift (4 pm to 12:30 am.) This means that the main time I was active, I must now work.
Then last week I got a call from the boss of the fireworks company I worked for last year ( and took the course through this year. ) They wanted me to come in and work during the day (And I did, so for a few days I worked 16 hours each day. So that means I basically woke up, went to work, got home grabbed a second lunch and took off again (for the other job I work), got home slept for about 7 hours got up and went again. )

That brings me to this past weekend. (And July 1st... Canada day for those that don't know. Which is alot like Independence day for the US.)
And that means fireworks...

My cousin (A long time pyrotechnician) and I were originally only supposed to fire one show on sunday (Canada day.) However a last minute change meant that we now had to fire 3 shows.

So we left friday after supper to head to the first firing site, to set up. Fired that, then headed back to the hotel rooms our boss booked. Woke up saturday and helped set up the major equipment for the 2 big city shows, then took off, set up and helped fire the second show which was quite a drive away... atleast an hour and a half. Then we had to drive back to the hotel... Rest up and then wake up in the morning (sunday) and help do even more set up for one of the big shows before taking off for our originally planned show which was a 3 hour drive away. (The main show is an hour from home, and the show we were planned to do is 3 hours further from that. So 4 hours from home. ) Anyway we arrived/setup/fired that, returned and spent the night at a local university before we took off for home today. (All in all, I clocked well over 1000 kilometres/600 miles this weekend.)

And of course no weekend would be complete without a nasty wakeup call when after being told today(monday) was a day off (because the holiday is sunday but we get that off anyway, and they must give us a day off for the holiday.) That they wanted me to come in and work on my day off. (I went in but only for a few hours.)

And so through all that, it gives me just enough time to start another week... So it's been almost 3 weeks since I've had a full day off. And I will be at reduced activity atleast until the end of the summer. (That is unless I either quit/get fired now.) Weekends may be possible but depending on the firework shows going on and whether I may or may not be on crew to fire them. (Cause a friend and my cousin both work for the same company and they put me on for their shows when possible.)

So wait, do you work two jobs or is the pyrotech course and...No wait... Wow I need to get some sleep. Pryotech is fire technoglly; fireworks... Ok I feel dumb, ignore this post. :-[

The pyrotech course I completed, then I was hired on for a job, but as I was working that job I was called to work at the fireworks job. (And I did it, so I was working 16 hours... 8 at the firework job, then I got off, went right home, refilled my lunch box and took off for 8 more at my other job.)

Currently I'm back to working just 8 hours a day (mon-fri) for the main job. (This year the firework job is just a side job.) So I'm still working at the main time I'd be online, but I still try to make an appearance atleast once every few days.
