Title: Chaos Emeralds
Description: Question about what they are

ramenradio - July 6, 2007 06:41 AM (GMT)
I am not one hundred percent sure if this should be in this section, perhaps in the gaming section,

If so, I'd be happy if any mod would move it to there if I am in the wrong section :D blah

Well, it's been kind of a long long time since I was a sonic fan. So long, I've forgotten so much about it :(

However, I have a question in particular. What exactly is the significance of the chaos emeralds? What are they, what kind of power do they posses, what happens if you get all seven, etc etc.

I'm sorry, I think I couldn't sound more like a noob or something, but I kinda need to know. I hope I can get back into sonic before it's too late for me
:'(

Right now, I'm going to be heading off. See you guys in the A.M. (even though it's the A.M. right now) XD

Well in the games there are always seven chaos emeralds or chaos rings (The rings were in Knuckles Chaotix and in Sonic and the Secret Rings. The didn't do much in KC but they had similar power to the emeralds in SSR). The emeralds apparently hold infinte power and could break holes in the time space continum (i.e. Sonic Rush). Seperatly they can power machines or other little things, but if all seven are collected and the person know how to use them, he/she can become invincible as long as they have rings. (The normal set up is 50 rings before transformation and 1 ring is used per one second.)

That's all I know.

The Chaos Rings you spoke of GS are actually World Rings, entirely different power sources. Originally there were eight Chaos Emeralds in Sonic the Hedgehog but in all games since then there have been seven. According to the storyline of Sonic Adventure, the "gods" had bestowed the seven emeralds upon the world to show the inhabitants of this planet that a great power existed. However, people started to wage war over the emeralds and the god sent down the Master Emerald, which Knuckles currently guards. The Master Emerald can track down the Chaos Emeralds and nullify their energies. They also sent down the water entity, Chaos the god of destruction, to guard the emeralds. However an ancient echidna tribe led by Pachacamac decided to use the power of the "newly discovered" emeralds to attack and seize neighboring lands. The echidnas attacked the site where the emeralds stayed, against the wishes of Pachacamac's daughter Tikal. The shrine that held the emeralds was home to the small and friendly Chao, who Chaos was also guarding. The attack on the shrine angered Chaos, who absorbed the negative chaotic energies of the emeralds and transformed into a hideous creature who wiped out the echidna civilization. Tikal, who wanted to prevent further destruction, trapped Chaos and herself in the Master Emerald. The events after that are chronicled in Sonic Adventure.

In Knuckles Chaotix the rings were called Chaos Rings. I just assumed the people of the Arabian Nights didn't know the name of the rings, but knew they had the power to transfer them to Sonic's world so they called them the World Rings. Otherwise there are two seperate sets of rings, which doesn't make much sense.

hold on a second... Here we go. Curtesy of wikipedia.

Knuckles Chaotix

Japan
The story was revised in the Japanese manual. In it, a mysterious island rose from the sea shortly after the events of Sonic & Knuckles. Dr. Eggman discovered the island, and found a mysterious ring inscribed with descriptions of the Chaos Rings, ancient Rings infused with Chaos Emerald energy. In order to find these Rings, Eggman built his base, the Newtrogic High Zone, on the island. Mighty the Armadillo, Espio the Chameleon, Vector the Crocodile, and Charmy Bee also arrived at the island, and ended up being captured by Eggman and Metal Sonic, and placed in Eggman's Combi Catcher machine. Knuckles, curious about the strange island, goes there as well, and manages to rescue Espio. The two then go on to stop Eggman from getting the Chaos Rings.

Special Stages
In the special stages, the player moves his character through a hexagonal, fully rendered 3D course to collect a specified set of blue spheres. Rings are collected as seconds and when the count reaches zero or the player falls from the course, the stage ends. When successfully completed, the player is awarded one of six Chaos Rings. Contrary to earlier games in the series, collecting all Chaos Rings does not award the player with special powers.

Special stages can only be accessed through a single large ring at the ending of each level, but the player must have collected at least 50 rings for it to appear. After a player wins all six Chaos Rings, the special stages start over in a wireframe mode.

Ah but what does that have to do with Secret Rings?

Gameshrk90 - July 7, 2007 05:32 PM (GMT)
The chaos rings and world rings are one and the same. Think about it. They're the same colors. It doesn't make sense to have multiple set of rings. Sonic also comments on the liklyhood that the world rings weren't from the Arabian Nights.

Net to mention the world rings caused Erazor to turn in to a monster and the left over power was transfered to Sonic, turning him into something similar to Super Sonic. That sounds like what the chaos rings are.

You may not have been able to transform in Knuckles Chaotix, but that's because there were only 6 rings like how there were only 6 emeralds in the first Sonic the Hedgehog.

There were six Chaos Rings but there were seven World Rings. I haven't played Knuckles Chaotix so I don't know what the Chaos Rings look like.

The rings look like the world rings just less detailed because they were on the Sega master system.

ok i get it

Gameshrk90 - July 8, 2007 06:29 AM (GMT)
Ok that's one person. AJ do you get what I'm saying now? Man we went off topic.

A.J. The Echidna - July 8, 2007 04:52 PM (GMT)
Yes but I still find it unlikely that Sega would bring something back from a game that was pretty much a flop. Oh well, they did bring back "Team Chaotix".

Case and point. Besides SEGA is the king of plot holes.

I think that the Chaos Emeralds, although they do carry Chaos Energy within them, don't have infinite energy. If you don't know what I mean, I recomend you see Sonic: Nazo Unleashed part 3. Nazo says there that the only thing he can't surpass is the Master Emerald, a source of infinitive energy.

Sephiroth - October 6, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
Everyone knows that the master emerald is strongest of them all and probably contains powers that we haven't even seen...still, the whole Nazo show was fan made...so were their lines...so i can't really formulate any opinion about this matter...
