okay i think we all know that atari started it all. BUT i bet u didn't know that atari was also the reason for the video game industry crash. LUCKILY! a trading card company in japan wanted to start making video games in the land of the rising sun THE VIDEO GAME MECHA! in japan where gaming was alive and well (not america where gaming was starting to fail) this company released the famicon. This system later came to america with a face lift. this company got some american members and these members were givin the famicon. the company said to their employees "okay this is what is in Japan. You have 60 minuetes to come up with a different idea for this system" sure enough in an hour THEY DID what looked like a box with buttons and a fliptop became a national phenomonon. While video games were starting to be reeally hated. this company rushed into selling their new system at what would have been the worst possible time. LUCKILY the system icluded improved graphics and a very succesful gameline. This system was released and being sold in New York City the center for merchants. The Big Apple The Concreate Jungle With the systems release came the quote from the company stating "HEY EVERYBODY........LETS PLAY GAMES AGAIN!!!" this sytem was christened THE NES YES MY FRIENDS I AM TALKING ABOUT NINTENDO!!!
*whew* what a mouthful! well now that i got that out of my system i can go on with this. I am starting a nintendo guild in honor of Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata. AND IN HONOR OF THE BEST VG DEVELOPER! NINTENDO so if u want to join post and create ur sig i'll be waiting

You mentiond the creator but you failed to mention the other major factor that made the videogame market revive... Shigeru Miyamato's master piece Super Mario Brothers. Without that game the NES wouldn't have been a big and probably wouldn't have revived the game market. (If it did revive the game market it wouldn't nearly have been as fast as it was.)
However Sega entered the market and the rivalry began, Sonic vs Mario. Thus the real console wars began. Ultimately leading to the creation of the playstation (and it's newer versions) and the entrance by software giant microsoft. Yes I would say Nintendo is behind all that. An absolutely massive industry owes Nintendo a thanks for reviving it and creating an industry that dwarfs hollywood. But this doesn't mean that I'm supporting Nintendo exclusively, Nintendo has pretty much kept a kiddy image (there are a few exceptions) but more serious games get passed over to it's competitors. So I'm throwing my support Behind the Playstation (70%) and then Nintendo (30%), but Xbox gets no support from me... (Maybe when it gets some games I want and microsoft cleans up its act...)
Buster The Fox - December 10, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
 WTF, What's with all these playstation fan-boys now-a-days??? Other than Kingdom hearts I & II, there's nothing good about it...well of course there is, DDR, square enix...but square just went 3rd party again, and kindom hearts is coming to DS. I wonder if the GBA version will unlock somthing if it's in while your playing... :) one more thing this is the amount of nations games have spread to: :flag: <_<
VirusZero - December 10, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
Before calling me a playstation fan boy understand this:
I was never one that supported a console because of it's name, I support it because of the games it has that interests me. Graphics are nice but they aren't everything. I support the Playstation because it has the most games that interest me. (Ratchet and clank, metal gear solid, devil may cry, gran turismo, god of war, final fantasy, and others.)
And before you call anyone a <console> fanboy/girl understand what your saying... Fanboys and girls are fans to an extreme they don't listen to reason and are apt to bash another console just because it isn't their favourite, their reasoning is poor ir non-existant. Looking back at many Xbox fans who reasoned "Oh the xbox is so much more powerful than the ps2 or gamecube, you all suck" but the problem was, they neglected to remember they had few great games for it. (Granted there were a few decent games and alot of ports but not alot that set the xbox apart.) This is exactly what fan-boy/girl-ism is.
Speaking of games, Final fantasy XIII is still exlusive to the ps3... DMC4 may not be ps3 exclusive but if I get a new console it'll be a ps3 before an xbox or a rev, because it has the games I want to play. As for kingdom hearts, I'm not a fan of that game.
technogeek - December 11, 2007 03:19 PM (GMT)
sony is okay but they're not getting any support from me for almost putting nintendo out of bussiness. and when they go bankrupt for making stupid descsions with the ps3 im just gonna laugh. also while i diddn't mention smb directly i mentioned the nes was successful for its awesome "gameline"
Buster The Fox - December 11, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
Agreed...Sony was trying to sell that movie player of a game system for $500... :...: It does so much more than just play games, and it's hard enough to find out how to play the game from the main menu. BTW, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is coming out for DS...just to get that said. :-_-: And VZ, it's Wii, not Revolution, they changed that awile ago... -_-
technogeek - December 11, 2007 07:40 PM (GMT)
not to be obnoxious or anything but it was being sold for $600
VirusZero - December 12, 2007 02:05 AM (GMT)
I know they changed the name, but as I have said before I flat out refuse to call their system by that retarded name. Revolution sounded so much cooler, and is supposedly more along the lines of what their system would do... Revolutionize how games are.
And as for the PS3, it WAS being sold for 600$ it's down to 400$ now, which is alot better (Remeber the ps2 sold for 440$ when it first came out. And by the year after it was still 400$) But if cost is the only thing your looking at then you have to factor in ALL the costs...
For me a PS3 is actually not that much more expensive than a rev. "What?" you cry? How can this be?
Here's how:
Rev price - 300$ (Yes that is what it costs where I live at the cheapest I can get it.)
And because I have 2 brothers I need more controllers. So I need the remote and the nunchuk... at 60$ a pop. So +120$
420$ now, but I have no games for the rev. (I only have 6 gamecube games...) So Now I need to buy some. Say 2 at 40$... there's another 80$
So overall I'll spend 500$ to buy the rev. Not that far from the PS3 price now is it?
For comparison purposes if I were to buy a PS3 here's what it'd cost me:
400$ for the unit
60$ for the additional controllers
80$ for 2 games
Total cost: 540$
And then I'd be able to play my library of over 50 PS2 games on it as well... So I'm only spending 40 extra dollars... Seems like a better buy to me.
(Of course in both of those instances game prices are variable depending upon which games I buy.)
As for FFXII So it's coming out for the DS... That doesn't really mean alot considering FF Tactics was out on PS1 then they brought out FF Tactics advance on the GBA, then remade FF Tactics for the PSP. They've made Final Fantasy games for other Nintendo systems as well ( Crystal Chronicals on the Gamecube, and remakes of Final Fantasy 1,2,4,5,6 on the GBA and the Japanese FF3 on the DS.)

I thought PS3 used memory cards? Or does it have a hard drive? And FFTactics Advance had a whole new storyline...it wasn't a re-make. And where do you live?? Wii's are only supossed to cost $250, unless your including tax... :idontknow: Plus the wii comes with Wii Sports, so You would have that to play. pwned Sorry, but it's true.
In other words, the Wii ends up costing around 450$...while the PS3 stays at 540$ or more if you have over-looked mem cards. Thus, my point stands...
VirusZero - December 12, 2007 06:26 AM (GMT)
PS3 has a 60 gig Hard drive... You can get an adapter so you can plug in your PS2 memory cards and load them to the HDD. But that's not a core necessity.
And sorry but my price calculations include no tax on anything. The Rev really does cost that much where I live (Canada.) The bundled sports =/= a game. It's barely a collection of minigames. And I refuse to count a collection of minigames as a true game, they are a fun side part of a game yes, but not a game on their own. Metroid prime 3 is a game, mario and sonic at olympics is a minigame.
And even for sake of compairson I say that the bundled sports "game" is a true game, it's not liable to hold attention for long (it has 5 minigames... yippee, play each one a few times, beat them move on.), so I'll need another 2 games anyway, cost still stands.
But now if you want to get really screwy on the price of a rev... start adding in the cost of getting the other controllers and accessories (Sure you might not need them, but they would make some games alot easier to play), cause now that's where you get screwed... a classic controller and a remote W/ nunchuk? sounds a bit bothersome to me. (Because again I'd have to buy 3 classic controllers...) I'll stick with my pay 30$ for a controller and be able to use it for every game and not have to worry about multiple controllers and stuff like that.
As for FF Tactics Advance I know it had a new story line but it still bears the name Final Fantasy Tactics, much akin to how Final Fantasy X and X-2 compares to Final Fantasy XII. The bear the same basic name (Final Fantasy), but they have alot of differences.

okay u know what vz? i really don't want to start an argument with u because thats not what thsis topic is about. i will admit that nintendo should have stuck with the code name for the wii. (note the wii's code name was revolution like the gamebube's code name was the dolphin) i don't like ps3 plain and simple. in fact one of the stupid descisions sony made was making another one with less space i belive with 2 more usb ports. WHAT USE IS THAT. did u know thaat they're making another ps2? i don't remember the ps2 being 400$ when it came out vz. maby thats cause imin america. but again i respect ur descisions and wish for no arguments.

USB Hard drive, Eye toy, Socom headsets... You know those kinds of things.
Seems a bit better than Nintendo's giving a system a new paintjob and packing a different game with it in order to sell more... Atleast Sony made some changes to the system itself. (Granted it's still not enough of a reason for me to buy a new system, but it's closer to one than simply a new paint job and a different game packed with it.)
And you might not remember the price being 400$ because for you in America it may not have been... (The PS3 used to cost 750$ here for the 60gb version... where as for you in Amerca it was 600$ if I remember right... it's now down to 400$) But I know the PS2 was 400$ here because I distinctly remember being in price-club/cost co. and looking at the nice blue box with the 399.99$ tag on it.
But I'm not arguing that Nintendo isn't good. I'm simply saying that from my perspective Nintendo isn't the best choice for me. (If I did get a rev, It would be basically for 2-5 games only at this current time, and I can't really justify it now. The only games I'd want to play on it are: SSBB and Metroid Prime 3. And the problem with that is SSBB isn't even out yet. So one game out of the entire current library... Though I'm sure if I looked through the entire library at Gamefaqs I could find a few more games I want to play but still... Off the top of my head one of all them isn't that great.)
And before anyone says "But some of the games you want for PS3 aren't out yet" I'll counter with this:
Nope, but they still have some good ones out that I want now.

eh? the PS3 is a great system sony made it for you to play not to hate as for the smaller unit why not ask microsoft the same thing? they did it too for the 360...so what if it had codenames? it doesnt matter its gonna be called something...
no they arent making any more PS2s but they are releasing it in various colors...
again..canadas money system is different so VZ saying the PS2s launch price was about 400 while in america is was $200
VZ had also explained the use for the USB its basically for the online equiptment or other stuff
while i do own most systems i barely own alot of games for the wii becuase some are not the good or its just in development same thing with the PS3
