Title: Super Vegeku VS Boo-boo Gohan
Description: Yes, i put the names right...
Sephiroth - December 13, 2007 12:30 PM (GMT)
I found this out a while back, and i decided to show you guys just how diferent it can be to listen to a great anime in another language besides the default ones( wich are japonese and english). This videdo is about dragon ball z, and it's in the buu saga, where Super Vegito is getting buu's ass handled to him. Everything seems normal till now right? Well you wrong, we portuguese people love to be original, oh yes we do sir. The only thing is that we suck at being original, and instead of calling vegito is default name, we call him, proudly, VEGEKU :B): And Majin Buu is called... BOO-BOO :ok: Of course the voice acting is great eiather way, but you will find this really akward since you won't understand a cookie of what the're saying ;) Anyuway, yopu have alreay seen this episode so you will understand what's going on. Also, i think that you are going to see that are musics are also diferent, because the english version did their on music, i think. Anyway, enjoy ;D

And here's a Japanese episode (From the same story arc, but not the same episode...)
Vegetto vs Majin Buu

Well, japonese dubs sound always good...but the diferences are there to see...Also, veggeto's voice sounds pretty cool...and it is the same episode...
VirusZero - December 14, 2007 12:30 AM (GMT)
I dunno, I found Japanese Vegetto's voice very difficult to understand, I could pick out a some words that I understand, but the rest just seemed garbled. (The second voice's timing seems to be a little off...)
And here's an english version of episode 271...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdUyNDkpERMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glr4EpfWG6s&feature=relatedNote immediately the number difference... 255 (US) is roughly 271 (JP)
And the episode seems to be different.. but watch until the 2 min mark in the US version... Then it suddenly becomes familiar.

The first big thing that i notice about you guys version is the constant music on the backgroun...the musics are pretty cool, but i guess i'm not used to hear a whole anime with continuing music...so, for me, it kinda starts to get anoying...not to mention that the musics are extremely diferent, but i don't mean that as a bad thing, some of your musics are better than the original...Also i just noticed that the dialogue from the portuguese version is very diferent from yours too....for exemple in your version, when Vegetto is piercing buu with the flash sword attak, he says things about buu seeing on the other side of the coin, that he was now the hunted...in my version, vegetto just says random things moking buu, and it goes something like this: "Oh what's the matter Buu, you don't look so good! Need some bandages? Soory, no can do, they don't pay me enough for that...! See completly diferent...i guess this is just the portuguese being "original"...once again :-_-:

| Majin Buu is called... BOO-BOO :ok: |
Darn, that was also his name in the Polish version of the anime, and Vegito got even better name, he was called... Vego... However it was all properly translated in the manga. I'm not posting Polish version because it was a French version + lector so yeah, editors probably were just too lazy (Although I think that next to Latino, French Version has the best non japanese dubbing). In this one when Vegetto cuts him with his energy sword he says "You're smart enough to see the diffrence between the student and the highly powered warrior like me" quite original too :p . I still wonder why English version is so special that it has custom music. I mean, what's the point? They just made themselves more work and costs. Seph I have a question, does Piccolo also was named in your version "Little Heart Satan"? I just hate this name every time I hear it ><
Sephiroth - December 7, 2008 12:05 AM (GMT)
Well maranx, i'm very sorry to say this...but...yes, we do call Picolo " Little heart Satan". When you're a kid, that name doesn't make that much of a diference, but when you grow up and start to see these type of animes with diferent eyes, you'll realize that this kind of things are a bit embarasing for a character like Picolo is. It just makes him look stupid and not so threatning as he can be. But we cannot blame our own countries for this matter...In fact, our translation was based on an already existing translation, wich was, as you already mentioned, the french one. It's true that the french one is one of the best out there and it as served as a basic translation for other countries like yours and mine. But languages are diferent from all over the world, that's the very defenition of the word language, that's why it exists, to seperate, to exclude and sometimes to unite. Anyway, when you translate something form another language, inavetably, a part of the original message present on the original dialogue will be lost, and sometimes, as that's the case, onother translation might even make that matter even worst. That's why your translation and my translation and all the translations are diferent...because they were done in diferent countries and as so, a part of this countries own culture and values will be present in the translation and so it will fit the need...even tough it's diferent from the rest of the world. Of course, i'm not saying that our own countries don't have any fault in this...they do, because some lines...sometimes don't fit and seem a bit too retarded to be in an anime like dragon ball is...but hey, if it weren't like that it wouldn't be our "own" dragonball z right maranx ;) ?

I think English has the best sync within the voice however...
Sephiroth - December 7, 2008 12:35 AM (GMT)
Maybe so...but like i said...we all cherish our own versions...
ClockHass - December 7, 2008 12:46 AM (GMT)
Yeah. You're probably right on that, because it just looks awkward when the people in the Portuguese version power up, or it sounds awkward. Maybe that's because when the English version people power up there's usually a stimulus of music that backs up the voice.
Sephiroth - December 7, 2008 12:51 AM (GMT)
You wouldn't be saying that if you were born here on Portugal...the reason that i dislike your version is because of that very same music...it's non-stop...it just gets pretty annoying after a while...you gotta have a little break from time to time, cause some parts have alot more impact if there's no sound in the background...naruto does that job very well, for example...
ClockHass - December 7, 2008 01:53 AM (GMT)
But the voices for Naruto are so horrid and make me want to jump off of a building whilst being shot by a dozen different calibers of weapons naked with a Spanish monkey singing happy birthday and pulling my hair all at once. That's pretty bad, so it's not balanced still. I think something like Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo do the best jobs.
Sephiroth - December 7, 2008 03:07 AM (GMT)
 ... :wtf: ...
I've listened to both japonese and english versions of naruto, and as far as the english version goes, i have nothing to complain...i mean, they're not that bad. But yeah, the japonese voices are a little better, since they put alot of emotion and effort into the dubs. You're cruel Sae...now you left me with the image of a spanish mokey singing happy birthday on my head :-_-: damn you :-_-:
ClockHass - December 7, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
That should be a good thing though. It's funny so it makes you laugh. Good thing. =D
Sephiroth - December 7, 2008 02:29 PM (GMT)
Yeah, i guess so...hehe... ;D
