That's right, I have still wait 2 weeks to get an actual driving license, but still I feel very relieved that I managed to pass it at first try. I can't wait for some xtreme driving. Vroom! Vroom! ;D

Thanks AJ, I heard that in USA you can do the exam when you're 16, am I right?

Yeah.. in Ohio they had some change in law though... So while you can still take it when you're 16, I'm not sure if you can still get your permit at 15 in a half.. If so then I'll have my permit in a few months and my license by the time I'm 16. :)

There are technicalities here as well... But you can't get your learner's permit until your 16. (That is unless you work on a farm in which case you can apply for a permit at 14, but you still can't get your full til your 16.)

And the process we go though here is this:

Before your 16 you go and buy a driver manual, you study this until you wish to get your test. Then you go to the DMV (Department of motor vehicles) and do some paperwork (Pay your 20$) then that allows you to write the test. (You must get 80% to pass the test.) After that you go through a vision test. Then you finally get to take your completed test to the Front DMV desk to get your learner's permit (Costing another 20$).

Now you can drive providing one person in the car is atleast 21 with 5 years driving experience and has proper insurance and registration on the vehicle.

You must wait 6 months before you can go try out for the full license. (However you may shorten it to 3 months by taking a defensive driving course, and that will only cost 600$ but it's actually worth it, which I'll talk about later.)

So either way you've waited your time and can now make an appointment to take the road test ( you need to purchase the road test recipt costing 25$ first however, because you have to give this unique id number from the recipt when you call to make the appointment.)
The on the scheduled day you show up and take the road test. Then you pay 20$ to get your full license and then for 2 years these are the only restrictions: can't drive after midnight to 5 am. And there is a zero tolerance for alcohol. (If you get the breathalyzer and it reads .0001 you fail and you lose your license and you have to start all over from step 1... with getting the learners permit again.)

And ofcourse now you have to get insurance on a vehicle. This ain't cheap... especially for guys despite the fact that the accident ratio between males and females is roughly 50%. The insurance people typically charge around 3000-5000 per year for insurance for a guy depending on the vehicle he will be driving. If a guy is driving a red sports car or a white truck (Yes the color and vehicle type do matter... apparently your more likely to drive fast in a red sports car... And the reasoning for the white truck is apparently guys who drive white trucks don't wear seat belts...) expect the upper limit. For a girl with the same red sports car it would be around 2000-3000. Thankfully if you take the defensive driving course the cost drops drastically. (To roughly 1300 providing your not driving a sports car...)

After 2 years you go back pay 25$ and they give you a new license and change your restrictions to: Can drive anytime and .08 becomes the alcohol limit.
Then in a few years your insurance costs start to drop.

Yeah, a long and fun process...
