Title: Sonic and the Black Knight?

Ok... So apparently, Sega is making yet another Sonic game for the Rev... And this time Sonic uses a sword? Where have we all seen this before.

But now, will it flop like Shadow the hedgehog, or will it help reclaim that which was Sonic the hedgehog glory? Or do you think that this whole thing is just a fake, that there won't be a Sonic and the Black Knight game? (Just Sega or Nintendo Power posting some fake imagery. Possibly to hype Sega's 2 other Sonic games and get people talking bout Sonic again.)

What are your thoughts on this?

blazermax - July 21, 2008 05:12 PM (GMT)
Let me just take a wild guess and say that you run with the control stick and swing the sword with the wii mote =.=

If thats the case I think this game is going to suck like many others.

ClockHass - July 22, 2008 03:33 AM (GMT)
I think it's stupid. Sonic is starting to toss games out left and right like Mario, and most of them are shit.. only one of the upcoming games looks any good and that's Sonic Unleashed. If that one fails, then Sonic just.. Fails. Simple as that.

Soul_Gatherer3000 - July 22, 2008 03:41 PM (GMT)
It'll suck, epic Sega. If you don't get this reference lemme break it down. Sega is are being suckage, suckage is are fail, so Sega = Fail.

Yotohan - July 22, 2008 08:22 PM (GMT)
It's going to play somewhat like The Secret Rings. Because it's based on the story book idea, like when Sonic was in the Arabian Nights book.
It's like a sequel to that.
Although, I have to say that none of his gear really looks like metal. It looks like painted plastic. Like one of those toy he-man swords you find at wal-mart.

In a Sonic game? Nowhere.

Everywhere else? Anime, Comics, and Brawl.

I don't think it'll be a flop. In fact I think it'll turn out to be a decent game.

More information about the game.

Super fast zelda

ClockHass - July 26, 2008 08:14 PM (GMT)
Even after seeing those images, I'm still not impressed.. I still feel like SEGA is tossing game after game out hoping to get lucky.

Soul_Gatherer3000 - July 26, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
We'll just have to wait and see. The pictures look awesome, but they're only pictures. I still think it's gonna flop.

Well, I'm not going to judge the game by it's cover. Although I think it will be a good game based on how I saw the gameplay.

Also, what's all this nonsense on how it will be a failure like Shadow the hedgehog? That was a good game. Don't say it was a failure unless you've played it.

Soul_Gatherer3000 - July 31, 2008 12:06 AM (GMT)
I've played it, it's a failure.

ClockHass - July 31, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
Shadow the Hedgehog wasn't bad everywhere.. It's just.. Getting to the Final Boss took too long to do and you had to replay levels a lot which bored the hell out of me.

Soul_Gatherer3000 - August 1, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)
Really, that's all that bugged you? I didn't complain about the length, and the fact that there was some co-op available from time to time got on meh goodside, but it's just the game overall was an epoch fail yo.

Dark Mage - August 1, 2008 07:33 AM (GMT)
I've read alot about the features in this game, it sounds like it'll be BRILLANT, unless they get rushed, which is unlikely.

But I look forward to it.

sonicfalco - August 2, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
Same here.

Mystic - August 9, 2008 12:14 PM (GMT)
They gave sonic a sword. After that thought they fail at everything else

Just like they gave shadow a gun

AND FAILED

technogeek - August 9, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)
i think it sounds great. If it's anything like SatSR then its gonna be great. I still don't see whats soo bad about shadow the hedgehog. I never played sonic 06 but i heard it was absolutley horrible. The only thing people didn't like about soniic heroes is that people couldn't blast through levels with "sonic speed" because they'd have to slow down and use power and fly to solve puzzles. But as far as sonic games go I'll play anyone i can get my hands on.

here's my checklist to me having fun on a sonic game.

1. does it include sonic?

2. can i play it?

3 is there a minimal amount of glitches?

good sonic game.

and also if the "advanced swordplay" is anything like the swordplay in red steal. i think we're in for some fun. who knows maby the swordplay will hhave overdrive simmilar to ffsx5

Mystic - August 10, 2008 05:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah but is that sonic game gonna come out on the Wii? Highly doubt it.

technogeek - August 10, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
uhh mystik read back. its a wii exclusive

Mystic - August 11, 2008 08:26 AM (GMT)
Heh >.> woops O.o

Ahwell still think it will suck

Toad the Dragon - August 14, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
i actually think it might be a good idea, i mean flash creators like us have been giving sonic a sword since the beginning of time.
So i say heck, go for it. Nothing to lost now, after the recent sega games.

VirusZero - August 14, 2008 12:41 AM (GMT)
Gotta agree with you Mystic, cause so far it seems like despite the sales figures... the Rev really is the weakest of the 3 current gen systems. (Both in terms of games, hardware and forward looking strategy.)

But this isn't a console war debate, (If you want I'd be more than happy to explain my viewpoints there) this is about the new sonic game... Which I think looks like Sega went around to a bunch of Flash/fanfiction sites and looked at what others were doing with Sonic... And they happened to see people giving Sonic swords and making interesting stories about it. So they figured they'd give it a go.

But for now it just looks like they're popping out Sonic games hoping one of them might be good and people will buy it... Hmmm sorta like the earlier strategy they had for consoles...

ClockHass - August 15, 2008 06:23 PM (GMT)
Yeah, and it's not going to work for SEGA... As I've seen more and more on Sonic Unleashed, I've even become more disappointed with that game. This game is just a BS attempt to make a come back. To be honest, I'm not impressed by SEGA as a company in the industry it works, and I become less with every game they throw out. There's not reason a title like that should come out, what? a year after one VERY similar.

Dark Mage - August 15, 2008 09:51 PM (GMT)
Guys, you all should know "Don't judge a book by it's cover", on the SURFACE it might not seem any good, but try it, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Sure, we all know Sonic Heroes had it's flaws, people don't like Shadow the Hedgehog cause of the guns (Seriously, fucking get over it...) but it was OPTIONAL to use the guns.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 had AWESOME graphics, but due to Microsoft been a dick (What else is new) they had to rush it, we all know that.

Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure on the DS are kickass however, I see no flaws in them whatsoever.

Secret Rings and the two Rivals games I wanna play so frieken badly. >.<

Regardless of how fanficy Unleahsed and SatBK are, I personally am looking forward to playing them, especially the 2D aspects of Unleashed.

Soul_Gatherer3000 - August 15, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
I can now honestly say that I've read everything. Shadow the hedgehog was o.k, weapons were not optional if you wanted to complete it however, but It was still a big failure. Sonic Heroes I have no problem with, it's o.k. in my book. Played Rivals, I believe it was, for the PSP, dun like it. Quite frankly I think it sux more than Shadow. Haven't played some of the other titles, buuuuuuut, they don't sound like they'll be anywhere as good as SA & SA2 which are, in my opinion, the greatest Sonic games in creation so far.

... Shadow the hedgehog didn't suck because of the guns... It sucked because the controls were flawed as well as the game was repetitive and tedious. Having the guns and vehicles only made it feel like a very poor Grand Theft Auto clone. (Which only added more insult to it than anything... I mean terrible controls were enough to put any game down. Because how the bloody are you going to play a game well if you can't control the character. Shadow slides all over everywhere at the touch of the button/movement controls.)

Phantos - August 16, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
I concur, the controls and the camera angles were flawed. However, the game still managed to become a good seller for most. It is one of the Playstation 2's Greatest Hits(even though the PS2 is a dying system...).

Soul_Gatherer3000 - August 16, 2008 01:24 AM (GMT)
That it is, that it was, but people who bought it didn't necesarily like it. Some people have no taste or know what a good game is. Some people, such as DM, have different oppinions or are just a die hard fan. My point? Just because it made it to the best sellers list doesn't mean it didn't make it to the highest returns list.

Graphics don't really make a game. It has to have a combination of everything, a good music score, good graphics, good gameplay, and good replay value. In my opinion, everything in Sonic the Hedgehog 06 looked plastic when out of the cut scenes and the storyline was way too cheesy.

Ahem i didn't say that and the Wii's doing pretty well itself.

I think it'd be a great idea to put it on the wii if they do it in the Zelda format.

If they can it as good as Zelda was (I thought it was awesome anyway) Then the combo of Sonic + Awesomeness + Wii interactivity will blow away games. But i think they need to look on the success of Sonic Adventure Battle 2.
What they should do

A) BRING BACK CHAO GARDEN (For christ sake that was one of the best things of SAB2)
B) No more annoying characters
C) Have a both side story but no same maps
D) Make a good story

That's all i think they need to do

Soul_Gatherer3000 - September 13, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
Agreed, and this is what I think they'll do:
  • Put in Sonic
  • Give him a sword
  • Add more useless Characters
  • Use a story not even worthy of a pop-up book

Dark Mage - September 14, 2008 03:00 PM (GMT)
No, this isn't Sonic 360, so it's not gonna be as bad.

ClockHass - September 14, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
Weellll... Sonic and the Secret Rings did pretty decently, so I guess this stands some chance.

Sephiroth - September 14, 2008 10:16 PM (GMT)
Sonic and the secret rings isn't all that good aswell...i mean, sure, the great interactivity that the wii mote gives you when playing the game, really keeps you busy and you'll probably sweat from time to time. Also all the levels are pretty cool and fun to play in...but, unfortnaly, this game hits you with an horrible and a somewhat familiar decease that has been alongside sonic's latests games...wich is...BOREDOM!!! After a few weeks playing the game you'll get rapidly tired of it! Why?! Because of a some-what extreme dificult that some missions require even for you to get a simple bronze medal in the freaking mission. Also the whole sonic party thing, is just boring if you don't have anyone to play with...just like Mario Party is! So the bottom line here is, secret rings is a fun game to play...but only the first mission of every level or "area" is worth while playing...the rest are just to dificult and will probably hurt your pride as a sonic gamer.

Now, about the new games that are going to be released in this year:

-Sonic Unleashed looks really promising. Has great graphics, cool, but similar secret rings, gameplay and a variety of levels wich can be played in diferent ways. The big downside that i see in this game is turning an animal...into another animal...-_-...that's just stupid...and i think that's enough said. The "Wherehog", as they call it, also fights and explores levels in a good old fashion, lara croft way...f*cking-A!

- Sonic and the black night...in a not so far past, we gave shadow a gun...and what hapened?! He sucked his way through sales...he might just aswell took the gun and shoot himself in the head ;D Now give sonic a sword, and he'll think he is in a King Arthur's and Merlin's story or something. Seriously...this is just wrong. I bet that if this game ever comes out it will suck badly, not because of the gameplay, but because the wii mote isn't prepared for something like this. The wii mote sensors are a bit slow and sometimes they do not respond to our movements as we would like. Take Prince of Persia and the rival swords as an example: The whole swings and chops with the wii mote acting as a sword, just feels retarded and it takes a decent amount of time for the prince to finish its combo, if you can even call it that. So, unless they fix that...sonic games, usually, are too fast for something like this.

Phantos - September 15, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
I really don't care either way if Sonic has a sword, a shield, and a boomerang, not to mention a green hat, making him look like a hedgehog Link. All that matters to me is how the game plays.

Link - October 20, 2008 03:04 AM (GMT)
A sequel to Sonic and the Secret Rings? I don't really have much doubt that this game will be decent. Who knows? Maybe it'll do better then Secret Rings.
