Title: Summer '08 Movies...

VirusZero - September 1, 2008 06:50 PM (GMT)
So Summer is basically over (*A cry is heard as people bemoan going back to school.*) But it seemed to me to have been a pretty good summer for Hollywood... And us. So now then I ask you:
- What, in your opinion, was the best movie of the summer and why?
- What were your top 5 (or 3 if you don't have 5...) favourite movies this summer and why?

Like always, I'll post mine up after I hear from some of you...

I really can't decide a favorite this year honestly. I'm a little bit biased toward The Dark Knight so, we'll just say that was my favorite.

However, the three best movies I saw were Hancock, The Dark Knight, and Tropic Thunder.

What made all three of these movies good? Well, it was a combination of things. The special effects, the directing, the acting, but mainly.. The combination of humor and action each of these movies had, it's a rarity to find good action with good humor now. I keep saying that this year is going to be a great one for movies because a bunch of awesome ones keep coming out like these.

The Dark Knight - Heath Ledger's performance on the Joker was a an astounding new personality that probably shocked everyone who saw it. They didn't need a background story to form the Joker this time around, simply a good plot and demented personality.

As always, Christian Bale performs the role of Batman and Bruce Wayne in the character's peak level. Up to this moment, I don't think I've ever seen a better Batman then Mr. Bale himself, and that says something about him as an actor.

Harvey Dent and Two Face was phenomenal as well. Definitely an improvement on the original take of the Two Face. When I first saw him flip his face to see what was remaining, I have to admit that was the scariest part of the movie.

I have to say the opening already caught my attention right away. The heist in the beginning was an ingenious introduction on the Joker's character. It showed everything he was about. Every moment of the movie held some point, so it wasn't like I was ever watching something that didn't need to be seen, even the short quiet moments.

Hancock - What a wonderful movie that was. Will Smith is one of those actors who can keep on producing without messing the part up. Everybody in the movie performed their roles well, and the explanation given for his powers was unexpected, and also the loss of the powers. I was worried near the end of the movie actually, because it didn't seem like it'd be a happy ending this time at all, and in most movies that's something you can count on, the good guy gets the bad guy. It was almost the opposite way this time.

This movie was filled with a LOT of humor as well. There was something always to be laughed at, even in some serious scenes. I'd just like to avoid having my head stuck up somebody's ass.

Tropic Thunder - The most recent movie that I've seen. I have to say Robert Downey Jr. was a believable Black Man. If I didn't know that was him I would have thought that was somebody else playing the part. Ben Stiller is an amazing comedian for writing that movie and Tom Cruise played an unexpected part in there. Congrats to all. It's one of those movies you can't watch the previews of and get the whole experience, really action packed, extreme, and just awesome.

Definitely The Dark Knight took my spot of summer movie. Like Clock said, Heath Ledgers performance was unbelievable.

Then Comes Hancock, which started funny and cool, then kind strayed off..
