Title: the damn ways of halo
Description: .....

I'm curious. Any tips for a guy on multiplayer..?
I don't understand alot of things. Everyone except me seems to understand what to do. Like in a direct firefight. Ya shoot, maybe pivot a little to avoid some of the fire, aim for the head, and then melee when you're close enough.
So why the hell have I never won a direct firefight ever? I can't even beat my little bro in a direct fire fight. Sometimes, I even manage to catch people offgaurd, and shoot them as they turn around. I know I'm hitting them because the shots bounce off their armor and stuff. Sometimes I even get close enough to melee them. Twice even. Then they turn around, and in a third of the time I fired at them, they fire at me/melee me and kill me.
Then there are times where I blast them in the head with a machine gun, then melee them when I'm close enough.(basically what I just said before) and they don't die. Is it simply because I'm not shooting them enough?
And that reminds me: Adding onto the problems stated earlier, how come whenever me and an online player melee each other at the same time, I'm always the one to die first.
Please, I really don't understand a damn thing about the unspoken rules of online play. I may not have the best skills in the world, but this game is pretty much showing others that I'm about the crappiest halo player ever.

Well. When using an AR (Automatic Rifle) It's usually best to aim toward the body because it's the largest area on your target and it usually takes around one clip to kill a target without melee if you hit all the rounds on them. If you're using a BR (Battle Rifle) then make sure you're aiming for the head, especially against someone using an AR. Also, if your target has an AR and you have a BR, keep your distance as if they can lower your shields and then melee you with the AR much quicker then you can with the BR.
In the case of AR vs. AR you'll likely start shooting at the same moment as your opponent, so when you meet at the collision point two scenarios will come as the outcome: A) You'll both melee and kill each other. B) One will melee just before the other and kill the other. In your case, it seems like B and you are on the negative side. You may be misjudging the distance needed to melee or it may be your reaction time.
In the case that you are fired upon first, find whose shooting at you, fire back while moving around - to avoid their shots - and looking for cover. If somebody hits you first, chances are you'll probably be dead unless you can get your shields to recharge.
Utilize grenades as well. Frags are especially fun to use, because unlike the others they don't stick or activate on the spot. Use that to your advantage. Almost every game type starts you with frags. Use it like a trap. If you see an opponent on your motion sensor, toss it at a wall so it bounces off toward them. Throw it at the ground so it bounces back up toward somebody running toward you, or just throw it in a room for clearing. Grenades are you friend.
Well.. Other then that, I don't know what to say. Keep playing. Experience is the best guide.

Well, some of this comes with practice and experience. Because I know that when me and my two brothers play offline, the middle brother beat me. (But he also has about 250-300 hours of game time against people on CoD4. Compared to my 18 hours. And he knows every bloody sniper spot in the maps...)
So play on the maps, learn the hiding spots, when you use one weapon over another for strategical purposes. (Such as the pickle fork in close range where you can jump down upon your victim. And a rifle for the longer ranges.)
And if your still having issues, check your connection speed. Make sure you're not having multiple high drain network programs running. EX- Any downloading or youtube streaming or server applications running. (Especially if they have a high upload usage... as upload bandwidths are typically much lower than download speed.)
(All it takes is one download running to make your game lag horribly, and thus mess up any shots you might take.)
And as far as comparing to others... Don't worry bout it. As long as your not mouthing off bout how awesome you are, no one cares. If you mouth off about how skilled you are... Expect to be hunted mercilessly. (Better players may hunt you just to hear you curse them out or compalin or whatnot.)
And beside you'll get better as you play the game. It's the same as anything, you practice enough and you'll have to get better.

I hope we're talkin halo 1 pc here...cuz if we are good.....i'll tell ya what....join the =Kä¢= Clan...I'll give ya training in the arts of halo....but a few of my tips....your 2 best friends are your pistol and your sniper rifle.....unlike call of duty 4....you have to lead your shots in halo....which means you have to shoot your gun ahead of the person and let them run into the shot....shileds are a major factor of how many shots it will take to kill... if your in a jam and need a change of weapon...grab a shotgun...or if your feeling merciless grab a needler...using noobish (emphisis on the word noobish) power weapons like the rocket launcher and the plasma cannon....(did i mention they are noobish?) its a good way to get yourself targeted by every player in the map... headshots are the best way to go but that is not to say always aim for the head....with the pistol you wanna aim for neck area... remember to grab the health before your enemy or prevent them from getting the health pack.. nades have a wide radius for damage...here's how them work....step one hit grenade button... step 2 shout "GRENADE" step 3 run away to avoid damage....step 4 damage enemy.... and when you get good at throwng...practice sticking...of course if ur enemy is wide open and ur near an assult rifle...pick it up and petl them with bullets.....and if you need to reload but it takes too long.....ha sorry thats a secret....join kac to find out

Actually, I was referring to Halo 3.
The sniper and I are good friends, but I am lovers with the AR forever :D
And no worries. I've only talked once and that was to talk crap about one of the enemies that were going around T-Bagging his victims and talking mess. I didn't know people did that, so even though I suck, I did hunt him relentlessly so I can beat him while talking smack at his corpse
But he deserved it. Otherwise I don't even bother with online talking.
Thanks, guys. I'm going to suck for a long time to come, but maybe I'll get better. I do need to play alot to get rid of the instant anxiety I get when playing though. I dunno why, but my hands get clammy on online play.
VirusZero - February 1, 2009 06:07 PM (GMT)
Heh, playing on a console isn't as bad as if you were playing on a pc...
(Much harder to hack a console whilst playing... Whereas on a PC, it becomes much easier for a player to attempt to hack your computer. This is especially true if the about-to-be-hacking-player is losing. )
Though I hear ya on the talking thing. Even though I have a mic, I refuse to talk because there are very few instances where I would have anything to say. Most of the time I'm playing online with people whom I don't know, nor have any other connection with aside from playing the game. And I don't want to give hints, cause then it just seems like I'm telling people they suck. I'm also not on a clan or anything so really, I have no reason to say anything in an online game.
As for the anxiety, don't worry bout it. If you think it's linked to the performance of the match, just remember that everyone starts out somewhere and that it's no bg deal you aren't off getting 60 kills in a 10 minute match or something like that.

I just found out something.
I've saved some recordings of me in combat, and I noticed that everyone is running around like marines and whatnot...except me. I'm kinda hunched over, always looking down, and I seem like some sort of barbarian. I always thought that me looking down was due to the scout helmet, but I changed it temporarily to see that I was still doing it.
Am I 'd provide pictures, but I'll do that a later day. Does something like this happen to anyone?
ClockHass - February 2, 2009 05:53 AM (GMT)
Are you aiming at the ground? If so that's a big no no. Always aim head level for your enemy. :D That way when you see them you won't be caught off guard.
If you want, we could play some matches together sometime or something. I'm on sometimes during the day. Usually after 3 on week days and it varies on weekends. I'm usually not on until real late on Thursday though because of rugby practice. My gamertag is Squiggles04.
Squiggles04 bungie pageMy other account was CavemanSquiggle but I never use that and it ran out of time. Though I have a video on that account of me winning an oddbal in a minute with me with a score of 50, one person with 1, and the rest 0. :D It was awesome.
Magnum_Wolfire - February 2, 2009 10:27 PM (GMT)
Oh no, sir. I assure you I emphesize looking around everywhere. I never keep my eyes off surroundings (unless behind me of course.) But no matter what, I'm still looking down and whatnot. Like I said, I was assuming it was due to the scout helmet, but I dunno.
Anywho, the name's Silv3r Stryker. I don't mind collecting friends and all that, but I never bother looking for them. Which means if you see me online, you'll have to break through my oblivious berrier and ask me to join your party or something. As for my time,....its pretty random actually.
Are halo recordings recorded the same way as SSBB, in that it only simulates the fight? If so, I guess there are no conventional ways to show videos?
ClockHass - February 3, 2009 04:00 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure what you mean.. But Halo videos include the whole fight from every action that you make. From a T-Bag to just sitting there and doing nothing, everything is recorded. The best way to show videos is to upload them to your fileshare on your live account, then others can download the videos on live.
Magnum_Wolfire - February 3, 2009 08:00 PM (GMT)
oh, cool. On Brawl, (and I think this too) the game doesn't simply record the fight, but re-simulates everything you did and crap, which is why if you were to try to get the data, you'd never watch it unless you video-taped it or something.
Something like that.
