Title: Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Description: What are your expectations about this
Sephiroth - September 3, 2009 05:54 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, so i'm here to let you all know, if don't know it already, that a new final fantasy is coming out, even tough it is still to be anounced when the game is going to come out. The game is called Final Fantasy Versus XIII and it revolves around a mystirious character called Noctis Lucius something, i forgot the last name, but its just the greek expression for "Light of the night sky". Aparently he is the heir to the throne of some long lived dynasty that has sworn to protect some crystals. Anyway, very little is still known about this game, but the creators of it are the same that worked on kingdom hearts, and the ones that worked on the movie Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. Do not think that this game is somehow connected to Final Fantasy XIII or Final Fantasy agito XIII, because according to the creators they do take place in the same universe, but at very diferent times, therefore there is no kind of relatioship between the three games. Anyways, why reading when you can watch right? so i put a trailer of the game here, so you guys can see what i'm talking about and give me your opinion about the game.

I'd heard about this game...
I heard that it has a kingdom hearts like battle system. And that it was tentatively set for an early 2011 release. (Though it depends on how much more Square keeps diverting people from the VS team to the FF13 core team.)
Sephiroth - September 3, 2009 08:37 PM (GMT)
I heard about that too, that this game will have a similar battle system to that of kingdom hearts. It 's also natural that this game release will occour around that year, even though, from what i've heard, the making of this game started on 2003, or at least the creators started to develop some plans towards this project around that year. It's been six years now, and this game aparently isn't even close to be finished. I honestly don't know how everyone at square enix can keep up with everything, i mean, they're developing final fantasy games like there's no tomorrow and, apparently, at the same time. They're about to finish Final Fantasy XIII and, already they anounced that Final Fantasy XIV is on the way...gezz....
VirusZero - September 3, 2009 09:43 PM (GMT)
I sort of like the idea of using a Kingdom hearts like system, it's far superior to the psuedo-free roaming system they tried in 12. (12's would have been better if they had relied less on the Active Time Battle mechanic.)
They might need to expand their team to meet the demand... Or focus on one project first. Or if they have any staff on other projects that can be spared, they could take them. I mean Final Fantasy is their mainstay franchise, Square needs it. And they need to ensure that the FF series is the best it can be, with all the usual Square polish.
Though Final Fantasy 14 is likely just going to be a revamped FF11. And I personally have absolutely no hope or love for it whatsoever at this point. The trailer did look promising, but when I found that it was an MMO, all hopes were dashed.
(I've probably stated it before, but if not I'll say it again... I rather dislike MMORPG's...) So for me FF14 seems a waste of time.
Sephiroth - September 4, 2009 01:08 AM (GMT)
I have to agree with you on that VirusZero, FF 12 battle system wasn't very appealing because of the ATB system. I mean, you could roam around the field freely, but when you had to attack an enemy in front of you, you would have to wait for the bar to fill up so you could go back to action once more. That's more stupid than it actually sounds. So yeah, i prefer kingdom hearts battle system to 12's, and if this game will have influences of that same battle system, i'm sure that it will be great. And i had no idea that 14 was going to be like that...man, that sucks. Anyway, i'm really looking forward to this game, and to XIII aswell, can't wait til it comes out ;D
Emotionless-Geek - September 6, 2009 12:35 PM (GMT)
Wait there are 3 FF13's?
Are all of them slated for a US release?
I remember seeing 2 FF13's back in gameinformer maybe a year ago or so. Though i dont remember its contents XD
I personally didnt mind the ATB, i dont know how the Kingdom Hearts fighting style is going to translate into FF, or how it will be recieved.
VirusZero - September 6, 2009 05:35 PM (GMT)
There are 3 FF13's...
FF13 Core ( or the version thats on 360 and PS3).
FF13 Versus (PS3 exclusive.)
FF13 Agito (PSP exclusive I believe.)
And yeah to the best of my knowledge they are all schedule for a US release. (Late 2010 or early 2011.) I've heard that the demo will be available next March... (Though I can't remember where I heard that, E3 possibly but I can't be sure.)
I figure the Kingdom Hearts fighting system will work quite well, I mean it'll make Final Fantasy just like Kingdom Hearts minus the Disney. Though there'll be different characters. (I imagine it'd be too much to ask for dlc characters to be made available so you could use Cloud or Sephiroth in your party as well. )
Sephiroth - September 6, 2009 11:58 PM (GMT)
Well, i too like the ATB system...in games like final fantasy VIII or IX, where your characters don't move and are always stationed in the same place the whole fight...but in XII, it just seemed a little weird. But the game was awesome either way, i loved it ;) Oh and it would be so awesome too, if Sephiroth or Cloud appeared in this game somehow...but i don't see that happening so soon.
Emotionless-Geek - September 7, 2009 12:54 AM (GMT)
It would not be awesome to see Seph or Cloud, because square would be appealing to one game more than others. My meaning, square would show favortism towards FF7, and i think it would pull away from FF13. Square has never shown favortism towards any of its FF games and i dont think it should start.
I also agree with what Seph said about the ATB in FF12, though i still thought it brought a bit of realness to the game, and also created more of a challenge
VirusZero - September 7, 2009 05:41 AM (GMT)
Never shown favouritism? I gotta disagree there. My proof?
Final Fantasy 7 - Advents Children.
Final Fantasy 7 - Last Order
Final Fantasy 7 - Dirge of Cerebrus
Final Fantasy 7 - Crisis Core
Final Fantasy 7 - Before Crisis (A mobile phone game...)
Final Fantasy Tactics (Unlockable Cloud.)
Final Fantasy - Dissidia.
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 (Sephiroth is a boss battle in both of them, and Cloud makes an appearance.)
Ehnergeiz (Features Cloud, Sephiroth and Tifa as playable characters.)
The remixes of the themes by the BlackMages.
They've done a great deal of favouritism towards Final Fantasy 7... Far more for FF7 than any other game they've ever made. (Even Final Fantasy X only got 1 sequel, and that's more than most of them get.) Too much for me to say that they never appeal to an other game.
Though I think it could significantly add to FF13 if they found a way to pull Cloud/Sephiroth in. Maybe as extra playable characters for a battle mode or something. (Akin to FF- Dissidia.) Cause extra modes = awesome. More awesome content for my money is always appreciated. (Especially if they're gonna be charging 80$ for it...)
Emotionless-Geek - September 7, 2009 01:39 PM (GMT)
FF: Tactics had two sequels
FF: 1-4 have seen remakes on the DS, 4 has DLC on the Wii
FF: CC has 2 games on the DS, 3 games on the wii. Not to mention the Crystal Defenders games
Dissidia doesn't count since EVERY main character 1-10 was featured in it.
And it wouldnt make sense to put old characters in new FF games, seeing as how FF is not linear and each seems to take place on a different planet. If anything i would like to see Dissidia fleshed out a bit more, and for it to become a real fighting franchise
VirusZero - September 7, 2009 04:14 PM (GMT)
I'm not counting remakes. All they've done is simply ported it to a new system, maybe add one or two new features. (Such as a sound test or enemy bestiary.) That's not enough for me to count it as a new game.
But even if I did count remakes, that still means that all of those have 1 remake a piece. They still pale in comparison to the work given towards FF7.
As for Tactics... Tactics advance is a spinoff, not a direct continuation. Though Tactics advance does indeed have a sequel. So at best, yes Tactics has a bit of love... But still not as much as FF7. And it even allows Cloud in the original, so it's also showing favouritism to FF7.
The dlc on the Rev still only brings it up to one sequel for FF4, still not as much love as FF7. (Even with counting the remake of FF4 that is still only 2 additions.)
I would say that Dissidia does count because despite the presence of other heroes and villians, Cloud and Sephiroth are the two biggest known and likely one of the major reasons people are going to buy this game.
Emotionless-Geek - September 7, 2009 08:18 PM (GMT)
No disputing Crystal Chronicles?
And there were alot more people in Kingdom Hearts than Seph and Cloud. Favortism is showing more love towards one thing than the other. We are talking about Square not the people who buy the games. If other characters are included then it is not Favortism, therefore Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia cannot be counted.
VirusZero - September 8, 2009 01:17 AM (GMT)
I don't know anything about Crystal Chronicles... So I can't dispute it.
Sure others make an appearance in Kingdom Hearts, and you may get to battle them early on. But to my knowledge Sephiroth is the only on who appears in both as a fight. And if you fight him, you'll know that he's pretty tough. Even tougher than quite a few of the previous boss fights.
You can have people from other games appear and yet still have favouritism. Screen time, number of appearances, importance to the story. Or if they can be fought, then how tough they are shows their importance and level of favouritism as well.
Though people show favouritism and that becomes reflected in the games... Why else would Square publish so much for FF7? Because people love it. I'm pretty sure that if enough people begged for it, Square would cave and remake FF7 on the PS3.
Though as far as FF13 goes, I do have to wonder if they'll be releasing some DLC. (It's highly probable they'll have loads for FF14... considering it's an MMORPG.) But for FF13, it'd be nice to see some free DLC stuff.
Emotionless-Geek - September 8, 2009 04:42 AM (GMT)
Free DLC!? thats like the rarest thing in the world.
Im not denying FF7's cult following. Im just saying that Square isnt showing favortism towards one game, they are showing it towards the Final Fantasy franchise. Screen time matters not, as long as they are there it shows that they care.
They may have put in Seph as a boss because they felt players would connect better with him as a Boss instead of someone like Cecil who many players dont know about. If anything they are doing it for the sales not because they like one game more than the other but because they want to make money. And thats not favortism, its capitalism
VirusZero - September 8, 2009 04:25 PM (GMT)
I have encountered free DLC for stuff on some of the games I've played. It wasn't the most ground breaking stuff ever, but the price was perfect so I'm not about to argue. (Resistance 2, Army of Two, Burnout Paradise, and Batman: Arkham Asylum all have free DLC.)
Though for FF13, I'm sure they could have some free weapon packs, maybe a multiplayer mode or something and that'd be cool. (It'd be awesome if they had a co-op mode for the storyline.)
Favouritism breeds Capitalism. And Capitalism feeds back into favouritism. Behold the circle. (People like something so companies cater to that like. The more stuff created the more favouritism generated and the more people are willing to spend.)
If Square cared, why didn't they show from FF6 and down? (I may be wrong on this, but I was sure that no one from FF6 or under appeared.) I mean FF6 is pretty popular right?
Screen time does indeed matter because if they only showed Cloud/Sephiroth for 3 seconds people would be annoyed. Especially if there were other FF characters that had longer appearances.
And you can't say that if your favourite character appeared for only like 2 seconds you wouldn't at least be bugged a bit by it. Especially if there were other characters from same series with longer apperances.

I couldn't have said it better VZ. I mean, it's a known fact that final fantasy VII was by far one of the most sucsseful FF games in history. It's storyline was great, it's characters were also great and the "new" type of gameplay that it showed was incredible. It marked a new beggining for RPG video games and for the players aswell. So it's only natural that final fantasy VII ends up getting more attention than the rest of the other ff installements, even if it's time is already gone.
I may go as far as to say that people at square enix do take some favoritism towards the game, not towards themselfs. i mean, as far as we know everyone at square enix may be disgusted and traumatized about ff VII, but they know one thing: The title sells alot! and for that same reason, we've been seing so many other installements that are connected to this game, because i believe that people at square enix don't want ff VII to die...EVER! Now that's when capitalism enters the play, and the secondary actors are us, the players that have had our minds corrupted by the awesomness that is Final Fantays VII.
Like someone in Soul Calibur would say:"... it transcends time and history...", and that's exactly what people at square enix are doing, because this isn't just about the old players from 1996, it's also about the new players, and what better way to involve those players by bombarding them with tons of movies, games, action figures, WHATEVER!
It's a vicious cicle, the reality of capitalism and favouritism...it's only up to us to decide wich reality are we willing to accepet...
Dark Mage - September 10, 2009 10:54 AM (GMT)
I personally am rather indifferent to all the sequels FF7 has had, yes, it's popular, yes, I like it, but I'm going to get Dissidia because I've always wanted to play a crossover game.
I wanna kick Cloud's ass with Zidane.
I personally think Square should focus on the original 13 then the other two 13 games afterward.
Sephiroth - September 10, 2009 10:44 PM (GMT)
Yes DM, but you've got admit that Final Fantasy Versus XIII darker and mystirious tone does make the game a little more appealing than Final Fantasy XIII. Though i can't wait till FF XIII comes out either.
And yes, i too would love to see Cloud getting his butt handled to him by most powerfull genome in the world ;D

DLC for FFXIII has been considered. They decided on new maps, weapons, and monsters. However VZ, Square would not release a DLC giving the players an option of co-op story mode. If they wanted Co-op it would be released with the game. They will not put DLC that will do anything with the story.
Versus XIII is an interesting game. Yeah its been in development since 2003, it can come out in Japan as early as Winter 2010 or Early 2011. If not then Later.
Gameplay is similar to Kingdom Hearts. Gives it that feel of an epic Action RPG with dark, Tragic Shakespeare atmosphere.
Early test footage and gameplay was shown behind closed doors in the mega theatre at the TGS 2009, but no one leaked it T.T, however it will be show at E3 2010
Adios!
