Hell yea i was spanked as a kid and i learned well from it

i agree, i believe that it should be used but only as a supplementary punishment.. i believe that after the spanking has been done, the parent should sit down with the child and explain why he or she was spanked and also tell them how much they love them. mind you, its doesnt help the sore ass, but it does help the parent-child relationship

Yes....i wouldn't properly use the word spank...but i guess there's no harm on one little slap.......i sometimes slap my nethew....he's always breaking my stuffs all around the house...he even broke my PSP can you believe in that .......now where the hell am i going to get the money to by a new one......

oh yes.. i also believe that some parents do not know how (or just don't want to) to differentiate between spanking them and abusing them and that is when the government gets involved.. these kids out here need discipline.. as they are getting out of hand.. i have been in many a supermarket where a 5 or 6 year old child is throwing a tantrum, and cursing his/her mother out just because they didn't have their way.. and the parent does nothing.. she just says stop or i'll give you a time-out.. if i ever called my mom a b!tch, she would have kicked my ass up and down the store.. and you know what? she would be right for doing so. see the thing is this.. the reason time-outs don't work is because eventually the kid starts to realize that timeouts are a joke, and begin to act up even worse than before.. parents make the mistake of underestimating how smart their young children really are.. they pick up on things really easily.. my mom didn't play that.. if we didn't listen to her, and stop acting up after 2 warnings, the belt came out.. this is exactly what these teenie-boppers, and kids need to learn respect. Theodore Roosevelt said "Speak Softly, and carry a big stick." and i am a believer of that philosophy.. but the problem is that parents are scared of spanking their kids because, they are afraid of their kids calling the police.. my mother spanked us and then dared us to call the cops.. we didn't, and when things calmed down, she came back and explained why we were spanked, and what we did wrong.. and that she only spanked us because she loved us and wanted us to do the right thing.. that is the kind of thing that parents need to do..

Yeah...but anyway his only a kid i didn't meant to broke it.....and i can't ask my sister to buy me a new one...i'm to proud....but omegacould is right they're a lot more cheaper than before so when i get the money i might reconsider in buying a new one......

I agree with BA, parents these days are either too afraid to spank their kids or are too "new-wave" against the old days. My mom used to whack us with a wooden spoon and if that doesn't shut a person up, I don't know what will.

i used to get the wooden spoon too.a few times later i got smart and stopped acting up.i'm glad my mom did or i would be like half the other ppl my age.ppl think when parents say "this is gonna hurt me a lot more than it's gonna hurt u" they're just saying that.i was talking to my mom a few days ago and she said whenever she had to hit me it tore her apart and she felt so bad afterwards.

i wish i could!!if i even tell him no i get in trouble..GRRR!!!but, nevermind that.on to the topic of abuse and spanking....i have seen parents cuss at their kids and smack them so hard that it seems like whipping a horse(which is also wrong).it's horrid.there's spanking and there's abusing...c'mon ppl!and cussing at ur kids, where do u think they get it from?!

my mom once bought one of those wooden paddles.. do you know what happened? she hit me once on my but and the damn thing broken in half.. i was laughing my ass off.. and she did too.. i apologized for what i did, and she grounded me for 2 weeks.

here is the difference between Discipline and Abuse..

spanking your child and he or she as a whelp: Discipline.
spanking your child until he or she is bleeding: Abuse.

popping your child across the lips for talking back or swearing: Discipline.
punching your child in the face and/or hiting them until they lose teeth: Abuse.

Spanking your child for playing with fire: Displine.
Spanking your child because you got fired: Abuse.

beating your child with a switch: Discipline.
beating your child with a baseball bat: Abuse.

I have no problems spanking my child, or a child whom i am related to, and is in my care. But if it is someone else's child, then i will keep a behavior journal.. indicating the time they acted up, and what they did.. and when the parents come home, i will hand them the journal.

I agree with spanking your child, as long as it is used as a supplementary punishment.. and as long as you explain to the child why you spanked them, what they did wrong, as well as why it was wrong, and tell them that you did it because you loved them.

In other words, I would spank, then put them on time-out so that they can think about what they did, and after a while i will call them and explain why i spanked them and why what they did was wrong.
