Did you know that a lot of teachers and professors submit papers to websites, so they can see whether or not someone cheated, and got their papers online?

I gotta say, I like this tactic..

What are your thoughts?

Actually I heard that they have a machine with a complete database of published works and when the professor inputs the paper into the machine, it can show if there was plagerized material in the paper and if there is, it shows the original author, the title of the work, the page and paragraph it appears on, and the original publish date.

Longest run-on sentence ever.

they also submit papers written by students (i think past students)

that way they can tell if someone got it online..

one student in my class was caught that way.

but what i don't get is, why cheat?

i'd rather try my best, and get the grade i deserve rather than cheat or take credit for something i didn't do..

Teachers are usually really good at telling whether or not you tried, and usually give you a chance to redeem yourself..

meh i think its pointless to go through the trouble of copying work off the internet and then having to write it down on paper.

I am sure that you can just as easily copy and paste it in word, and then print it out with your name on it.. huh.gif

www.turnitin.com
thats the major database of student works i've hard of, I've had to submit almost all my works there this term. Though I've never seen this happen but apparently it displays how much of your essay is copied when you submit it.

here's how it works for me:
1- open my webct program
2- I click the class name where I need to submit the report
3- then it brings up a list of works which need to be submitted and the dates that 1- you can first submit it, 2- last submit it
4- I click the one i need to submit,
5- the page will shift and i have to enter my name, and a title for the essay as well as upload it.
6- Click upload and a copy of the essay is displayed, and it asks for a final apporval before it sends. I ok that and
7-the data is fed to the turnitin site where within 3 minutes it processes my essay and checks it's originality then reports back to me with an originality report.
(usually the teachers request I print a copy of that as well as a copy of the essay.)

and to be honest, I find it a bit of a nuisance to do this, as it takes extra time, and if you quote things it lowers your originality, so if you have alot of quotes in your work you might get a low originality report and the profs may think you copied, even if you properly cite all information.
not only this but it doubles your printing costs ( if you don't have a printer you use the universities and it costs 10-12 cents a page, which on a 6 page report plus originality report racks up the cost. ) but even with your own printer, ink/lazer catridges aren't cheap and if you have to replace them alot because of having to always print double it gets to be a real nuisance and not so cost effective. And I don't really see the need to print a copy of the originality report off as the prof can go online and check it anyway, it's just needless printing on our behalfs.
and furthermore I find it pointless anyway, because generally if someone copies a paper of the internet they were never trying in the first place, and that shows through previous work efforts and if someone copies large chunks of another's essay then alot of times it's word for word and never fits in correctly ( this being the essay is older, uses outdated into, the references never match etc... ) so it's not like it's a difficult thing to catch especially if you have to read the essay anyway.
(you can't mark an essay by skimming it, if I had a prof do that I would be sorely angered as they would probably not get the point of my argument, and then they'd mark me down for it.)

The answer is simple, dear Black Angel. The reason is SATAN Satan satan!

But seriously, it's because of good old fashioned laziness.

Worst Church Lady reference ever!

ofcourse if they direct quote from something they see online and never credit it, and it has nothing to do with their argument they really haven't shown any intelligence...

these people that think they are so smart and can get away with copying don't understand anything, these same ones also aren't araid to copy others work steal it claim as their own and everyone suffers because of them.

Cheating's cheating yourself
You may not think much of it when you're young
But it'll affect you when you need it again
