Do you think that Sex Ed in high school, should be expanded upon?

Such as the inclusion of masterbation, and safe sex as other alternatives to abstinence?

Do you think that they should be included in the Sex Ed. curriculum?
Why or why not?

Uhh... They are already included aren't they? (Least they were here... several times in several classes. Heck in grade 7 to 9 they have an entire class devoted to it. Then in high school they cover it in biology... Odd place for it though...)

No.. well, I'm not sure now, but when I was in high school..

They taught about pregnancy, and reproduction, and how the sperm enters the egg, basic info about the male and female reproductive systems as well as about STD's and their symptoms.

Nothing about masterbation or about safe sex, in health class you had to walk around with a bag of flour that you had to bring from home (so that they could stamp it with the school logo) for a week to show what it would be like if you had a baby, and they also spoke about abstinence.

The former surgeon general Joycelyn Elders was fired because she wanted to introduce safe sex, and masterbation, into Sex Ed. I think she had medical and scientific evidence supporting her position..

I gotta say, that I agree that it should be taught in schools, because the parent's aren't doing it.

They don't want to think outside of their level of comfort. They don't want to face the reality that their child will be out there and having sex, or will want to have sex. They don't teach their kid about the alternatives, they just tell them that they shouldn't have sex until they are married, or that sex leads to pregnancy, and STD's and leave it at that.

I honestly believe that if the parents actually took the initiative, and thought outside of their comfort zones regarding Sex, and their children, and actually told them about the alternative ways that you can relieve yourself, then there would not be as many kids out here sneaking around, and getting pregnant.

Honestly, other than hormones, I think that the fascination that today's teens have with sex, is due to the fact that it is deemed as forbidden in the eyes of their parents.. I think that, as horrible as the thought is, if the parent's actually sat down, and spoke to their kid like an adult about sex, and masterbation, then that kids' fascination with it would decrease.

I think that if my parents sat down and spoke to me about it like that, then I would be so horrified, and skittish about it, that I wouldn't want to anymore.. but i would also know a lot more about sex, than what I saw on tv, or heard about in music, or heard about from my friends. I wouldn't be entering into something that I knew hardly anything about, and I'd be much better off for it.

I'd rather teach my child everything I knew about sex, safe sex, and masterbation, and compromise both of our comforts in that situation, than to have my child go out, not knowing a damn thing about it, and have sex, and end up pregnant.

That is why I support this idea, as well as condom distribution in schools. Just because you were given a condom doesn't mean that you have to go out and do it.

Kids aren't stupid, and they are already masterbating, so the parent's may as well accept that, and tell them that they'd rather their kid continuing as an alternative to intercourse. It is time that parent's stop telling treating their children like babies.. otherwise, they may just end up being grandparents.

I belive that sex ed should be left to the parrents, however sence its unlikely that half of them will pony up to do it there should be a course describeing safe sex, but nothing more. Proper condom use, ETD, and birth should be tought, defantly.

I agree, I mean, I wouldn't be comfortable with the thought of my child's school teaching them about masterbation, hell, I wouldn't be comfortable talking to my child about it, or anyone else for that matter.

However, I think that even though it has been said about how hard it is to raise a child, that they weren't just talking about the 3 a.m. feedings and the baby crying when you have absolutely no idea why, but about things like this too.

Sometimes you just have to suck it up, and be willing to step outside of your comfort zone when it comes to things like this for your child's sake.

And since the parent's aren't stepping up to the plate, and teaching their kids about it, then I believe that that responsibility should be given to the schools.. who knows, if anything, they could supplement each other.

I do think so, but what's the point, kids are gonna do it anyway and not care bout the consequences, but I believe we should for the smart kids who if they do have sex in high school or before will be safe.

Well, that's not entirely true DM...Sure kids now have alot of pressure in having sex much more earlier than they should, but i'm pretty sure that when the time comes, they will know at least what they can't do while having sex...camon, we gotta face it, sex education nowadays reflects itself on television and also trough our own parents. sure when we're young this subject might seem like some sort of tabu, but as we get older, our parents kinda start to figure out that our interests are starting to point into another direction and so they will teach us what the consequences will be if we act inreponsably towards sex. So in my opinion, sex education won't have much more effect on kids than television and those stereotips that have been created towards sex trough these this mean have already. Cause it doesn't matter if we tell a kid that puberty only reaches its top max when you're about 18 or older...they will see that, in their minds, sex is something that should be experimented much more earlier...sometimes only to be part of something that you blindly call society...
