O.k. So I made the completely partially sane idea that I wanna build my own comp. So I start searchin' newegg and the anagrams blowz meh mindzors!! Seein' as how this is a somewhat large decision I don't wanna rush into anything before getting some opinions from people smerterrer than me. If you have the time, and or patience, ... minus the 'or' do me a fovor and look at the following list as these are the things I would like but are not sure about:I'm pretty sure about everything else, the OS, memory, mouse, keyboard, speakers, DVD-ROM, DVD+R, and mic. The only thing's I haven't picked out yet are the power supply and the graphics card, as well as the cooling system and monitor. Input would be lovely.

Oh, duh. I'll be using it for gaming, mostly, so any suggestions on a good graphics card would be much apreciated.

Mucho thankies, Bob

Soul, let me first apologize for not clicking on this topic sooner. that being said, the first thing we need to know before any decisions are made is....What are you going to use this new computer for.

There are usualy 3 answers to this question

1. Word processing/desktop publishing (minimum horsepower required)

2. Web browsing ( just for fun pc. medium amount of horsepower. and a few movies thrown in)

3. Gaming (video editing and high amounts of BOOM YOU JUST GOT FRAGGED! INCOMING AIRSTRIKE UAV RECON STANDING BY STAND AND FIGHT ME. Large amount of horsepower needed.)

so what do u need this comp for?

lol oops sry i can tend to be kinda ignorant. ashamed0006.gif gaming huh?

k are we looking at general gaming or are we looking at cry engine hardware gaming?

any other uses for it?

what type of hard drive are you planning on using? ide or sata?

I'd recomend getting a Gigabyte Mobo. very good motherboards. Never settle for anything built in. if you want anything built in then fine but get expansion cards. im pretty sure networking is easy for u to understand butif u need me to explain anything there then let me know.

The card that will create the best graphics is actually not one card. but 2

Yes I am talking about Nvidia sli technology. An sli is a card that can communicate with another sli card, share memory and produce sharper graphics. Remember more memory in a video card = sharper graphics. If ur planning on using sli tech then the mobo u get needs 2 agp ports. Never settle for a card that can have more shared memory than dedicated. This means its better to have a video card that has more of its own memory than the video card stealing memory from ur system ram.

Speaking of ram. I'd recommend using at least 2 gig of ram if not 4. and im pretty sure the type of ram you will be using is called DDR SDRAM. but the mobo will tell yo what type of ram it can take. Here's my favorite part.

The cpu. why is it my fav part? one word SPEED! in today's world i would not settle for a single core anymore. At least get a duo core especially since ur going to be gaming. At least 2.0 ghz a core. in ur case u might want 2.5 ghz a core if not more. Now the choice of cpu u get (amd or intel) is up to you. but keep in mind you have to get a mobo that is compliant with said cpu.

I never really paid attention to soound cards. for me its just, if i get sound, i get good sound, and i can record from my sound card i'll take it. but do some research maby u'll find things idk about.

Now as for OS. I am forced to not shout out XP NO NOT VISTA WHATSAMATTAWITHYOU! vista has its problems its true but there is one thing about vista that wins over xp. Direct x 10. "The only people that need vista are the gamers and no one else" this is becuase more and more games now will only work if you have dx10. in other words. more games will only work if you have vista.

As for a case. Just get a case that will hold ur hardware. if ya got the dough to get something that looks cool then have at it. make sure its properly ventilated. Get enough fans to cool everything. unless ur thinkin of water cooling which ive never tried.

and thats all i can think of fer now. any questions let me know.

I'm usin' SATA, I'm gonna run Vista on a partitian but use XP mostly. I'm gonna crossfire this graphix card. Might get 2 hdds, one 1TB for sure. I plan on havin' 8 gigs of DDR2 SDRAM. Might run Linux on a partition later. I had a CPU I was lookin' at but for some reason Newegg keeps takin' it off of their site. If I get everything I want I'll have one leftover pci and one leftover pci express 2.0. Any other essentials you can think of?

8GB OF RAM!? eek2.gif

dude no offense but thats a lot more than u'll need. I've never seen a computer run 8 gb of ram before. its a very nice card. Im alittle confused at where it says pci express. just make sure that card uses agp interface cuz if it doesn't im not all that impressed.

number of slots are a given. get enough sata ports (btw i have never met anyone who has had need for a tb of spave yet) at least 2 agp ports. u don't really need 2 hd's when u have a tb though.

what are u looking at for a mobo and how fast is this "unseen" cpu?

To start, 1 of the team leaders here has a TB of stuff just backed up, I plan on doin' alot of crap when I'm not gamin'. But I can always add an adition hdd later if need be. AGP mine arse yo. PCI express is faster at transmitin' data which is why more and more graphix cards be usin' it yo. Read that wikipedia article. Here's my mobo. And I can't remember how fast it was, it was a dual core black editon somethin'. I'll go search for it on tiger direct or somethin and post it later. And later is now, here you are. Check it out, tell me if I need somethin' better. As for the 8 gigs, so what if I don't need it, I want it, ima get it, all there is to it.

I could actually use a TB myself.. and I would really appreciate having 8GB of free RAM, especially with everything I do on this comp... =/ It's just a matter of what you use it for.

O.K.! Well, I probably won't worry about a sound card since my mobo has one buitl in, and my chasis does too.

Well like i have said. I loathe almost everything built in. the only "built in" i will take is networking. i would recconmmentd getting a good hardrive. and since ur building a gaming rig. maby you should get an hd sound card. I really don;t like built in sound. its very limited and its also because i enjoy recording whats coming out of my speakers. but i can't do that without a record what you hear option or stero mix option. which doesn't come with most built in cards.
