What? They couldn't find a noose? I don't buy the b.s. that this isn't racist because it was food, because if that were the case, then why did they choose those items? And not something like Caviar, Corn Dog, Merlot, and Filet Mignon? This is just a offensive as showing an Asian person with Egg Rolls, Fried Rice, and other Asian foods, an Irish person with a Rainbow, Pot of Gold, Leprechan, and Bailey's, an Italian person with a Pizza, a Canoli, and Cement Shoes, a Canadian with a Hockey Stick, an Igloo, a Mountie and the word "Eh?" or a Hispanic person with Tacos, Tequila, Burro and a Sombrero. If they used Obama's image with random foods, then that would be different, but instead, they chose the very foods that have been stereotypically linked with the African American community. What? They couldn't find a burning cross, shackles, a noose and showed Obama picking cotton? The daughter of the woman who passed these around, says her mother is not racist because her husband is Mexican. Somehow I'm not surprised by this.. I am shocked that it took this long for something like this to happen.

I dont think thats racism. It's just having a little fun. Racism and joking are two different things. With a joke you dont mean it, racism you mean total offense and are probably hated for it. BUT SERIOUSLY THAT BUCK WITH OBAMA IS FUCKING FUNNY

If they weren't intending to be racist, then why only show the foods stereotypically linked with Blacks, more specifically, Southern Blacks? There were many other items they could have shown on there besides the ones they put up there. Anyone with an iota of intelligence, and knowledge of history, can read between the lines on this one, and it would be obvious as to why those specific items were chosen. Would Whites be offended if someone put McCain's image with a Swastika, Dollar signs, a guy with a "lap pinky" and a KKK robe? I am sure that some would say that that was in good fun as well. Seriously.. Obama is half-White, so shouldn't there be items stereotypically linked with Whites up there as well? What about the fact that he was born in Honolulu? Shouldn't there be a Pineapple, a Lei, Kālua Pig, Hibiscus, a Macadamia Nut, and a Hula girl up there as well? No. Instead, they chose Fried Chicken, Watermelon, and Kool-aid (that stereotype came from Good Times) the very foods that have been historically linked to a negative stereotype about (albeit Southern,) Blacks. Adding to the fact that it is supposed to be a "Food Stamp" as opposed to actual currency, (yet another stereotype about Blacks, where they are all on welfare) is an even bigger indication that there was a racist undertone to it. Honestly, that woman showed her ignorance, and stupidity, because Obama is not Black, he is mixed, and he is both and so, if she was going to include the items that are linked to Blacks, then she should have included the items that are linked to Whites and Hawaiians as well.

I think anybody would be offended by being connected with those items. In this case however, the pictures are of things stereotypically linked to the black community.

Personally, I think peeps like this say and convice others that they are not racist, but deep inside they turned whatever hatred into amusement so that instead of doing something overall evil, they do something evil, but with enough of a twist to be hidden by what we all love and sometimes hate, depending on the person, Comedy.
But what if it is? What if it isn't? What can be done? Doing anything about this seems as equal as removing any traces of D.Shipelle(Forgot how to spell..) or C.Mencia.
My opinion is that yes, this is a bit too much, but no one cares anymore. Too many people have integrated racism into their lives enough to stop giving a shnit about race, while at the same time keeping a close eye on the boundaries and keeping horrible traditions alive, wether at a minimu or maximum.

Hmm...

Gotta disagree here, to me that sounds like you can say anything you want, racist or not, then be like: "Oh, dude, lighten up it's a joke." And that would immediately make everything good again. Sorry, but that doesn't fly for me. Jokes can, and often are, taken way farther than they should ever be. Doesn't make it right by saying it's just a joke. People still get offended by it.
As for racism... It still is a big part of the world, as sad as that is. As for what we can do about it? Well, that's the difficult issue. I'd hope that as time passes that racism will fade as people give up thos eolder values. But that's just a dream as the past influences the future.

I agree with you there VZ, not to mention that some jokes, such as these (although not this exact joke, since it is pretty obvious) are passive-aggressive forms of racism, as is comments like "I've never forgotten that he is a smart, articulate black man with a smart, articulate black wife. You think white people were just going to turn over the keys to the most important job in the land without a fight?" (which was actually said recently..) or a White woman clutching her bag as a Black person walks past her.
Not all racism comes in the form of "All Blacks are Ni**ers," there are passive forms as well.
