Levi says he might marry Bristol - later

The teenage father of Bristol Palin's new baby says he and the Alaskan governor's daughter are split for now, but he didn't rule out a reunion in the future - after he has a chance to grow up.

In an interview to air today on "Good Morning America," Levi Johnston said he needs time to mature before getting hitched.

"It's just us not - me not - being mature enough," Johnston told Neal Karlinsky on "GMA."

Johnston, 19, said the breakup was "a week, maybe two weeks" ago - about two months after Bristol gave birth to their son Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston on Dec. 27.

"We were in a fight," the teen said. "And trying to see if we can make things work. But this is what it kind of ended up turning into. But we'll see what happens."

Johnston said they would "just remain friends for now."

"We're both cool with that decision, and we'll see," he said.

Johnston sees his son regularly and said becoming a dad has changed him. "I don't do a lot of things I used to anymore, I'll tell you that," he said.

The couple's relationship came under intense focus in last year's presidential campaign, with the announcement that Bristol, then 17, was five months pregnant. The revelation came just days after Sarah Palin was tapped as the GOP vice presidential candidate.
